We have just purchased a house between Yecla and Pinoso to discover a couple of wasp nests in the pool and garden. Is there a local pest control company who can help?

Only two.... you´re doing well!. Normally small nests, (but plenty about after water, pools, fountains etc). Find QM Quimunsa. Avispas when they´ve gone home around dusk (to make more babies). It gives you a good distance spray. & fulminante.

For once I disagree with Villas. You don't need a specialist product - just give the nests a good dose of ordinary fly spray.

Whilst I agree with Jim (as nearly always, My Guru) & certainly not employing specialist personal attention. The product I mentioned is not a specialist product, (which is a similar fly spray & equal cost), but has a "long-reach" jet (which directly enters the nest) as opposed to a fine spray without being close proximate to the nest. rather than a cloud of wasps emerging slightly angry!

although for me, a wasp sting & applied vinegar to the skin does the job, for my partner, having alergical reaction requiring medico injections (antihistamine). She doesn´t look good like elephant.man! keep away & good luck.

Good advice from the other folks!

If it is a big enough nest and you can get close without being hurt, light a BBQ under it and smoke the lively ones out... then go back with the fly spray!

In the past, I have also used a power hose with the direct jet nozzle to destroy the nest, they soon clear off then. I have also used the pool long reach cleaning net to 'grab' the nest, dunk it straight in the pool and hold it there, moving around the net around to keep everything contained,  until they drown, then lift it out and dispose of.

Without knowing the size of the problem, your mobile ability, the above is the best I can offer.

Worst case, I am half an hour from you, I can pop over and do the dirty work if you don't want blood on your hands!

Disclaimer - wasps will likely be harmed during the making of the solution :o)

Thank you for your replies. I have not seen the problem for myself, it has been reported to me by the couple who tend our pool and garden  who came across the problem just before taking a short break and not being back to deal with it before my parents arrive ( they are in their 70's and I don't want them to have to deal with wasps).

If generally available products will work  I will wait for our gardeners to visit and hope they can deal with the problem

Thanks UKhandyman for your offer of assistance ; we may well contact you to find out what range of work you are able to do as we have just purchased a property that may need some maintenance.

Thank you Jill, for your response and consideration.

In brief, I do not do construction and I do not touch Gas or F-Gas (Air con gas). Everything else I am qualified competent, experienced, or comfortable with. Small jobs through to projects such as Kitchen design, removal, installation etc.

For the works I do not do I have a very trusted network of likeminded tradespeople who I am happy to recommend.

I will PM you my contact details for your records

Kind regards

Hi,

We have just moved to Pinoso (well 10 mins away), and we have loads of wasps around our pool and garden. Is this normal? I’m a bit worried since my children are quite young and do not quite understand about wasps and I’m not sure if one of them is allergic or not (he’s never been stung before).

The wasps seem to be attracted our pool, is this due to a nest being near?

Can anyone help us get rid of it? I haven’t seen a nest in our garden but it may be in our neighbours garden.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

Very quickly (because there´s much information on this forum & with many Spanish years of used with them my lady friend before Franco was kicking about).

wasps (normal legged legs, small nests) look for water to make their nest) at dusk.

They are not aggressive but will. Nieves (worked in the fields since 13 yrs of age) is allergic . (this has been all said before ( read Jim´s) repeat.)

second. pool problems.....they will be more attracted to a fountain near by.

(more other attractions will attract more wasps.. So  find them somewhere better than (for eg kids in a pool!) they work! (in a fountain, that is not kids).

Many will with all ideas, will come with ideas. I go with what the Spanish know already, many years ago, There´s much on here. Many ideas.Go with your flow & hope you don´t get stung.....we always will. Lastly & does not help much, but on a swarm of wasps settle, a spot of washing detergent disperses the water tension & they drown more easy. This does not solve the problem!

Great to see two Gentlemen on the Forum that can disagree with no animosity, unlike some who should know better.
