Congratulations!

With the non lucrative visa you are not allowed to be out of Spain for more than 12 months in the first 5 years so if you spend 3 months every year in the UK you will breach the terms of the visa so make sure you keep this in mind when planning your visits because your movements in and out of the...

... Schengen Zone will be monitored now.

All the best with your new venture.

I had no idea about the limit, thank you for flagging this....yet another thing to consider!

With the nlv, as a couple moving to Spain can one person be the 'main' resident and the partner be a dependent for income proof purposes?

And if you have dependents, are they subject to the same restrictions on travel/ staying in Spain as the main applicant do you know? I'm thinking about teens studying abroad/ OH working temporary contracts in the UK for a few months.

Thank you 🤗

Hello Helen

Yes you are correct, husband can  be main residen for higher income and you & other dependants witll need proof of lower income .

Each family member will need to apply for residency and get their own TIE card so all  the rules will apply to everyone..

Cheers

El Cortijo, just outside Pinoso, near the Murcia border. Lots of statics for sale, with very reasonable prices, plus you can live in it as a permanent home, unlike the UK!

How much roughly and how much is around rent sorry new to all this but thank you

You would think, yes, but some appear to have stuck their fingers in their ears and hoped it would all just go away, thousands have been living  here illegally for years.
As you said originally, you plan to spend just 9 or 10 months a year in Spain but you need to check if this will ...

...cause problems for you in the first 5 years.
If you spend 3 months in the UK in year 1, all well and good, then you spend 3 months the next year, still good, and for the year after and for the year after that but this means you will have spent 12 months out of Spain by the end of year 4 which leaves you no more time to leave Spain in year 5. At least that is how I read it with the link I provided earlier.

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for finding the article again, my understanding is the same as yours.  I remember someone else had said it was a maximum of 10 months in the first 5 years of "temporary" residence.  Good to see a source for the information, especially as it appears the maximum absence period allowed in 5 years is 12 months.  Of course, after 5 years, NLV holders become "residencia permanente", so no more visa applications needed from that point.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Helen,

The Non-lucrative Visa (NLV) is what the name says - it doesn´t allow you to work in Spain.  As holders of NLVs, you will be tax resident in Spain and, as such, you have to declare your worldwide income here (savings, investments, income from property rental etc,), so I don´t believe your OH would be able to continue working in the UK without falling foul of the NLV requirements.

There may be other Spanish visas that would be more appropriate for your circumstances - information on visas is available in English via the Spanish Consulate website:

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados ... Visas.aspx

Kind regards,

Kim

Have a look on 'Caravans in The Sun and other static websites, they can start from 12K and up to 30K or more! The ground rent or service charges, depend on the site amenities, what it includes, somewhere between £240 per month to £300 or more. Check all of this carefully as you browse.
