Yup, I have to go get a script for BP & thyroid meds . They don’t recognise my Australian script and empty packs don’t help.   I would take a good supply and a copy of a script in case you need to go see a GP to go get a local script.

So you can't get it without prescription ?

Hello

Not sure how recently  people have been able to buy some of these meds but mine too,( BP/heart meds) were once  available to buy but now, only available with prescription.

The farmacia  said that the regulation of some  meds for sale, has been tightened up  a lot ,so I guess you might have to shop around to get what you need.

Cheers

Elinspain

Thanks for letting me know

It depends on which farmacia you try, some will sell them without prescription and some won’t.

Hi all

We're over soon to our new holiday home. Trying to pack is a nightmare as I'm bringing stuff for the house. Just wondering can I get prescription meds over the counter in the pharmacys, usually bring my own.  As I'll be spending longer times abroad would be great just to buy them there and l...

I had to buy my heart tablets in San Miguel recently which was quite straightforward and didn’t break the bank apart from Apixiban.  That would have cost me 70 or 90euros so I got my son to send them over via DHL which was much cheaper so be careful

I used to buy my blood pressure and Cholesterol tabs from the Farmacia in Benidorm. I had a months supply for around €4

Steve

Hi. I have Irish passport and European medical card.  I get most of my tablets for very cheap, same in Ireland 2 euro per month per medication. Except for the expensive ones. Xarelto, which is a blood thinner. In Spain they won't give me that on medical card and they cost 90 euro per one month's supply which I must pay. In Ireland it's difficult to get 6 months supply up front. Depends what humour the GP and the pharmacist are in.
