Hi thinking of buying an e bike.  There are 250w up to 750w. Are there rules fir certain wattages of bikes eg cycling on cycle paths registration etc. Saw some article saying needs to be insured and registered.  Surely not. Saw 750 w bike was cheaper than 250w. I really don't know much about them. Want a folding one. Decathslon have very little in their shop here  thanks

Hi,

have you tried asking for advice in Decathlon? they usually give good guidance on all types of bikes, including electric bikes. They may not have much stock in the La Zenia store at the moment but they have a extensive on-line range, including 48 folding models..

If you see something like on-line ask if they will get it into the La Zenia store for you to try.

Rgd,

AItch.

Hi I spent day looking online. Saw engwe bike we liked. Ordered it directly with the company. Went for 250w l20 range. Supposed to do up to 140km. I'd take half that probably using the assistance. Still lot better than the average. Was 750 eiro cheaper for 2 bikes over Decathalon price. Free delivery within 3 to 10 wirking days. Fingers crossed they arrive.  Pays to shop around. Thanks for your advice. Hopefully they will work out. 😊

A lot of cyclists stop at Lovelo, it's a bike and coffee shop Rioja Centre Los Dolses. You can also ride along the canal that runs through Los Dolses, I'm not sure where it begins but you can go as far up as San Miguel De Salinas and down towards the coast. There are alwasy lot's of cyclists on the canal path, mostly car free, just shared with walkers and runners. Should be well in-range with your new bikes!

Living in Los Dolses, the canal service roads are often my starting point and obviously you can go off in either direction:

1. If you head right (towards San Miguel) then can stay on the path to San Miguel (there is a slight incline on the approach to San Miguel as the canal goes through a tunnel whereas you have to ride up and over the CV941). Once through San Miguel the path continues by the canal and basically takes you as far as Vistabella.

There, you have a choice to join the CV95 (if you do this do it before the end of the canal path otherwise you end up on a very rocky path to get to the road!) or you can take a right to stay on a canal path for a short while (maybe 4km) longer and head towards Los Montesinos. You'd take a short stint on a fast downhill on the CV935, over the AP7, before you're able to rejoin the canal path just by Las Moreras (fruit and veg warehouse on the CV935) and cycle all the way through to CIudad Quesada- largely on the canal path but occasionally on deserted roads. At Ciudad Quesada, there's a cycle path on the CV905 that you can follow into Torrevieja if you wished. Alternatively you can head off where-ever else the urge takes you!

2. If you want to stay solely on the canal path for longer then heading left (toward La Fuente commercial centre) allows that as the canal path continues for a good 40km or so. I can't remember exactly where it ends but I know the last time I tried you were basically forced off it somewhere beyond Torre Pachecho - not because the path ended but because a security gate was locked across it!

Normally, if I'm feeling energetic, I'd head down to El Mirador on the canal path before then following the signs for the Eurovelo route which takes you in a big loop through Sucina, Hacienda Riquelme, over the mountains (it's nowhere near as steep as it sounds) into Murcia city before then joining the Rio Segura cycle path from there into Orihuela and ultimately into Guardamar before heading back roughly paralled along the N332 through Torrevieja and back to Los Dolses. That entire circular route is around 100 miles so may not be your thing but I find it a very pleasant and relaxing route to do over the course of day.

Lovelo in the Rioja centre is a regular stop for cyclists - similarly Bar El Tirale in the Los Dolses commercial centre also seems to entice them in. Both have large terraces to sit out in the sun and chill if that is your thing.

I've no experience of e-bikes as - so far- medical conditions haven't caught up with me physically yet but they do seem to becoming increasingly popular both for the shorter journeys to the shop but I do see them quite regularly on the canal and have that little bit of envy as to how easy it seems for them to turn the pedals over compared to me!

You may find details of rules and regulations on the N332 website as it deals with anything to do with driving in Spain.   The site is for English speaking people and is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil.   It has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.
