Hi. I have Irish passport and European medical card.  I get most of my tablets for very cheap, same in Ireland 2 euro per month per medication. Except for the expensive ones. Xarelto, which is a blood thinner. In Spain they won't give me that on medical card and they cost 90 euro per one mon...

Can’t you get someone to send them out to you.  Pre complete yr prescription request and ask them to collect for you

I had to buy my heart tablets in San Miguel recently which was quite straightforward and didn’t break the bank apart from Apixiban.  That would have cost me 70 or 90euros so I got my son to send them over via DHL which was much cheaper so be careful

interested to know how DHL brought your prescription meds over?  they refused to ship mine, as did TNT, UPS, apparently the shipment of prescription meds into Europe from outside Europe is now banned.  (UK)  Strange you can bring many months supplies in your suitcase, but not by courier or post services.

My son sent them. It probably isn’t relevant but it was only 2 pkts. He also sent a book and Christmas cards.  He deals with DHL if that helped.  He posted them one day and they arrived the following day

Another thing he probably didn’t tell them.  I know last year during lockdown he sent numerous tablets via Royal Mail and they got through but because of Brexit and problems with RM he didn’t want to chance it.  Hope all this helps

Hi,

We had an extended an stay last year and ran out of meds and could get venlafaxine and other prescription meds quite easily, if a little expensive.

What we could not get however without seeing a doctor was Anit-biotics.

Hope that helps.

Since the UK officially left the EU at the end of December 2021 many things are now either not available or very expensive here in Spain.

Thanks everybody for the advice.  My GP here in Ireland will give me a script for 3 months.  I must try him for 6 months.  As far as I can remember it was the pharmacist who wouldn't give me 6 months supply of Xarelto. The other ones I can buy on a spanish prescription for 2 euro each e.g.  lipitor, lozec, istin etc. The Xarelto  costs  90 euro per month's supply in Spain.  They have taken me off Xarelto now and am on Pradaxa but I expect that costs the same.  It costs me 2 euro here on my medical card.  Big difference over 6 months. Thanks again

I have numerous heart meds to take each day. I buy these over the counter. As a precaution, bring a copy of your prescription. Most are very cheap. The most expensive is blood thinners, around €80 a pack.

Your doctor should be able to prescribe 3 months at a time to save you money. Unless you’re over 60 and on free nhs prescriptions, it likely cheaper in Spain tbh.
