Hi peeps

It's time to file my Spanish tax return - which is usually very simple. However, my father died in April last year (in England and he was British), and in November I (finally) received my inheritance.

To clarify, he was a UK resident, and I have residencia/TIE.

I now believe that I should have done a Modelo 650 within 6 months of his death - and I'm finding google to be a bit of a clumsy tool on this matter! Can anyone confirm that I should have done it, and what the consequences of not doing it are?

Additionally, on the income tax form I see the inheritance section, where it asks for my Dad's ID. But he had no passport or driving license when he died, so what am I supposed to do?

And yes, I know I should ask a professional advisor, and probably will, but it helps to talk to other people first so that I have a better idea of what questions to ask him!

Cheers

Steve

Yes, definitely see a solicitor. However, your Dad's ID will be his National Insurance number.

Hi Steve,

Yes, inheritors have to submit the Modelo 650 within 6 months of declaration of the death.  In specific circumstances, this can be extended to 1 year, but the request for extension must be made no later than 5 months from the death.  You definitely need to see a lawyer.

Kind regards,

Kim
