One of the features of having a Wise account is that you can open accounts in 50 plus currencies, you need to open a Euro account, this will have an IBAN number beginning with BE, Wise' account is based in Belgium, hence the BE, this is widely accepted, you may get the odd supplier that is stuck ...

...in the past wanting to accept only Spanish accounts but by and large the BE IBAN will be accepted.
Have a look in your Wise account, your Sterling account will have the British flag, to the right hand side of this you will see another square with the word ' open ' on it, hit that and find the Euro account, easy to do.
Once you have your Euro account open click on the ' convert ' tab to fund the account from your Wise Sterling account, there will be small transaction fees but no monthly running costs as with your Sabadell account.
As for closing your Sabadell account, Spanish banks expect you to attend in person or at the very least appoint a Power of Attorney to close the account, having said this, I have read that a couple of our members did manage to close their Sabadell account from the UK over the phone...but wait until you have set up your direct debits from Wise.

I managed to close our Sabadell account today over the phone, they answer in Spanish but then ask if you require an English speaker. Press option 5. You need either your NIE or passport number to confirm what they hold, and your online password. They then send you a code by text which you have to confirm back to them (so you need to call from the phone number that they hold). Call was answered quite quickly ( definitely quicker than my UK bank answer a call) and it only took a few minutes.

Great news, strange thing is, most of the other banks will not do this so hats off to Sabadell for making it easy, from many comments on this site they don't have much else going for them if you are non res.

Kenbo, if you find a supplier who refuses the Wize Iban number contact Wize directly. It is illegal for anyone in the EU to refuse an EU registered Iban number and Wize write and point this out to the offending suppliers.

Yes Care4 I did know that but it didn't stop my Urb administrators taking 2 years to set up my direct debit with Wise, in fact when it did happen the admin didn't bother to notify me, I thought that my account had been defrauded lol.

Sorry——- one further question for JulieTony. When you phoned Sabadell to close your account which telephone number did you use ———local branch or a national number?

Kenbo my administrators also tried to pull the same stunt until I pointed out to them that they had accepted payment using my Wize bank card and that it was illegal for them to refuse a payment from an EU registered bank. I also informed them if this continued I would need to register a complaint in their complaints book before visiting the consumers right dept. of the local Ayumiento. Account was accepted. If they do not activate the DD for my fees I will of course attend the community AGM and point out their discriminatory act and request their removal. I don’t know for sure but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that they get a kick back from Spanish banks for adopting this line.
