I believe that is the reason some people put large bottles of water on the pavement outside their properties.

Dont ask me why or how it works but my understanding is that somehow the reflections put the cats off and they move on.

maybe try it and let us know the results.

Cats hate citrus smell, so cut up lemons or oranges and put where they poo to discourage them or alternately you could put a litter tray for them. No guarantees they will vuse it but might be worth a try

Hi

I have spoken before about the problem of cats in our area but this photo which I took on a recent visit out shows the extent of the problem. This is catpoo on the footpath outside our communal pool the town hall have been notified but no action seems to have been taken.

Does anyone know is there any law which can be evoked here

That looks more like dog poo. Cats will rarely defecate in open areas like that, where they cannot cover it,  but dogs will defecate anywhere, especially when on a lead

Law or no law, nothing will be done about it. Cats, dogs and horses seem to have more rights than human beings.

The cats have to be sterilized and castrated so they can not reproduce more wild cats. Start a volunteer group..ask a doctor if he can help in association with an animal shelter.

I found cat poo on my white stoned bed. Yuk. I’m sorry if this upsets some of you but I sprinkled chilli powder and curry power onto the stones. Cats stopped using it as a toilet.

Thank you I tried this and it does work.

I appreciate your input.

I suppose in a way though I am hoping that the local council might clean up the street area and wasceondering how best to approach this.

We had problems with a cat going on our and our neighbours flat roofs, this was not a feral cat, it belonged to someone a few doors away. I put about 20 1.5 ltr bottles of water on my part and it stopped, so the bottles definitely work.. When my neighbours returned a few months later they had over a kilo of cat poo on their part.

I had a problem with a cat sleeping on the roof of my car thanks to local kids playing with it there too.It scratched the lacquer layer on the bonnet in this period. I stopped it by placing a small rubber mat on the roof every night with a container with earth, pepper and mothballs in it. Mothballs in the external area around the boot and wipers also for a few weeks. It stopped and has not been back. We went to Italy at Xmas and would you believe it, a cat started sleeping on the car roof again. Must be the colour, burgundy metallic. It never went on their cars, (black and white).

I agree with this comment.

It is extraordinary for cats to defecate in an open area such as that in the picture. Cats are generally very private about their toileting habits (with the exception of urine marking) and choose under cover areas with loose dirt/clay/sand to cover their faeces. This wide open space with no earth or clay to cover up, is a very unlikely location for cats to toilet. I'd suggest it is far more likely to be dog faeces.

Possibly
