Hi to all,

I am arriving Spain late on 12th June. I have downloaded and completed the EX-15. I would like to obtain the NIE number without the costly assistance of a solicitor etc. My questions are: can I go to the police station in San Miguel to start the process, do I need to make an appointment, I will be staying in a hotel whilst I finalise my apartment purchase, will this be satisfactory. Some companies state they can obtain the NIE in a few hours at an extortionate cost. Can I do the same, (obtain in a few hours at minimum cost)? Do I need to go to the town hall, if anyone has recently been through the process, can you give me the heads up and pitfalls.

I had to make an appointment online for the police station in torrevieja, when I attended it was about 20 mins but needed some one that spoke Spanish

Hello Victoria, you have written that there is a three week lead in period for an NIE appointment. I am only in Spain between 12-17 June. Services to obtain the NIE on the web state they can arrange the whole process to take place while I'm there. Can you not do the same? I'm will be staying in San Miguel. Are there other offices in that area that can be used quicker?

Thanks for that Pete, someone has written they obtained their NIE number from a police station in Torrevieja, do you know if this is still possible?

You used to be able to book in person but now it can only be done online. Since the Semana Santa closed office days the appointments have run far ahead. it can all be done in the time you are here no problem but they would have to have already booked the appointment. I have just been looking today for someone and Torrevieja, Orihuela and Playa Flamenca are all offering dates of 28th June +

Best of luck, maybe they have a inside connection i dont.

Only had my appointment 6 weeks ago, but I had to book my appointment in advance , which was about 2-3 weeks in advance

Unfortunately, I cannot open the maps you have sent me but I can with the help you have given me find the police station on my google maps. One last thing, do you have and can you send me the email address you used to make your appointment to obtain your NIE?
