I’ve had a Sabadell account in Spain since June 2019. I started paying €35 per quarter until I became resident, then I went into the branch I Originally registered with, along with my Residencia card and the €35 was no longer paid to them.

However, In January 2021, I noticed a message on my online statement saying that I would now be charged €40/quarter! So I made an appointment to go into the bank in January.  This was supposed to be sent to me by post but, as usual, I never received it....

...

I originally had a Key Account Plus and I changed it to an Expansion Account for state pensioners (or anyone under 29 years of age) where they assure me that I will not pay any charges. I receive my pension in 2 parts, one small amount from Italy and one even smaller amount from the U.K.  This way I am not paying any transfer charges.

The problem is that you have to keep an eye on the banks as they change policy and conditions at the drop of a hat without informing you specifically.

Thanks for reply.

Why don't you change your bank. I have only heard negative reports about your bank.

Caja Rural Bank . I have free banking with them and I can recommend them.

Interbank is also good if you are a resident.

There are so many other services that Sabadell do well. I often use a branch which is not where I originally set up my account and I am quite happy with the counter service.

I have had experiences with a couple of other banks while attempting to pay some taxes and quite honestly the staff involved were very reluctant to even serve me!

So Sabadell suits me - you just have to keep a close eye on them! But from what I gather, you need to do this with most banks!

I have my pension sent across every month and I’ve had free banking for over 3 years.

Not all Sabadell banks are the same I went around most Sabadell in the Torrevieja area all had different rules the one at Le Zenia only wanted 550 euros a month for free banking.
