It's against the law in Spain for dogs to be off the lead outside the curtilage of the owner's property, unless in a designated area, such as a dog park.  It's a myth that Greyhounds need lots of exercise, so as CeeGee says, 10 minutes free running in a safe, enclosed space, in addition to n...

That may be, but how many dogs here are runnning free? Who abides by these rules? Yes, you can ban everything, fortunately we are in Spain, where they still let live...unfortunately there are hardly any possibilities to let the dog run free, the dog parks are full of untrained dogs and uninterested owners and there are always biting matches, no thanks! that's why a dog that comes back directly when called is a better solution. I leash my dogs mostly but when I hike they are free and still allowed to be a dog, oh yes mine are trained in tracking and protection, if you ever need help and get lost you might be thankful that there are dogs like that....

Thanks for your comments but I can assure you I have tried this. I have a very happy rescue dog who is content with the daily  walks I give her and the occasional run in a safe environment. She has a strong prey drive so not to be trusted off lead - even with firm command. And as I’ve just...

... found out from Kimmy, it’s against the law for offlead dogs in public places. I will use the enclosures suggested in other posts

I have Dutch Shepherds with very high drive, from working lines, high temperament, also hunting drive, the only remedy is daily training! There is no dog that is not controllable with enough qualified training, I go off lesh in the city although everything is super exciting, but few want to invest time in training! There are no excuses, only convenience! Besides, this daily work builds a team between owner and dog, trust is the key that must be built and interest must be present....

I abide by the rules.

I have a rescue Podenco X, who was a year old when we got him.  The rescue found him at their gate one morning, so they knew nothing of his background.  For reasons unknown to us, he's petrified of fireworks and church bells, so I took him to training classes, but as well trained as he is, I could never be 100% confident that he wouldn't bolt if badly spooked.  Irrespective of the law, it's my responsibility to keep him safe.

I've never had a problem at Guardamar dog park.  There are two enclosures there, side by side, and on the only one occasion that I've seen a 'spat' between dogs, both owners immediately took responsibility for their animals.

CeeGee is enquiring about safe spaces to let their Greyhound off lead - we don't know the history of the dog, nor how long CeeGee has had it, so I think answering the question is preferable to implying they have been delinquent in the dog's training.

Sorry to disagree but I am a dog sportsman and a dog trainer for "difficult cases" I think I know what I am talking about...you must be one of those who can't recall your dog when he is in drive, that says it all for me...

And yet more of your assumptions which are irrelevant to the OP's query.  It's a pity that you're so full of self-importance that it inhibits you from realising that you're not able to answer the question - not least because, by your own admission, you don't visit dog parks 🙄

Dog parks are full of disinterested owners who are unable to recall their dogs, and this is exactly why incidents often occur. Perhaps now you understand the context, the owners are sitting on the benches staring at their phones letting their dogs run without control. To accuse me of self-importance is an impertinence, I work a lot to give the dogs a species-appropriate, happy life, that's why I train them daily. . Owners like you who can't recall their dogs are the reason to avoid those parks. I hope your dog doesn't get bitten by a dog that can't be recalled either, when he's allowed to run 10 minutes a day. It is a waste of time trying to explain the importance of obedience, actually the most important thing of all, no matter, the main thing is that your dog feels happy ...in this sinne bye bye

In Santa Pola , no, not that I’ve become aware of. There is the beach area just north of town or the dirt tracks at the back of town but nothing actually enclosed that I’ve found .

There is a beach especially for dogs in gran alacant not far from santa pola. The sand is nasty black colour and a shit liad of seawees usually but if your dog is social then they will have great fun. But beware sometime police are there and want to see passpirt with up to date vaccines, or god forbid you have  an agressive breed like my dumb ass staffie who isvscared of his own shadow and you have no licence the police can take the dog, however because we are all pooch lovers, its friendly and usually most the dogs haveva great time in the sea
