Hi Ronald,

Do you have a smartphone?  If it's Android (rather than Apple), you will have Google pre-loaded with a search field on the home screen and if it has a microphone symbol in the field, you don't even have to type anything, you just say, "Hey Google, translate Spanish to English", or vice versa...

....

I remember a (very rare!) occasion in a Spanish shop, when I spoke more Spanish than the shop owner spoke English, so he grabbed his phone, spoke Spanish into it, then showed me the translation on the screen.  It's proved invaluable on a number of occasions.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

3 years ago we bpught for around 50 euro a thing in Thailand. It is DTAC...

We  try  always to  avoid to use it, but we are going to investigate!

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ronald,

Apologies if you already know this, but Android is a mobile phone operating system (as opposed to iOS, which is the operating system for Apple phones).  You say that you're familiar with using a laptop, so unless it's an Apple laptop, you would be best suited to an Android smartphone.  You can get yourself a perfectly good Samsung Android phone for between Eu 200 and Eu 300, much cheaper than a laptop and, most importantly, portable, but there are other makes, such as Huawei, which also have very good functionality at a lower price.  Probably "Media Markt" in Zenia Boulevard has the best selection if you want to be able to compare costs between the different brands.

Kind regards,

Kim

Sorry, Ronald, I think I was typing at the same time as you!  Great to hear that your existing phone does what you need :o)

Yes, it does, and those smartphones I think you should have such small fingers for using it,as well as BIG eyes, or good ones...

Thanks anyway,

Ron

Hi Ronald,

I've used Frankie Pow Translations:

https://m.facebook.com/francesca.pow.1

Mobile: 610 553 426

When she accompanied me to a residency appointment in 2017, she charged €50, but I don't know what her current rates are, so best to contact her direct.

Kind regards,

Kim

I went to the doctor's last week and she spoke very little English, but she used a translator on the computer that translated visa versa

Well, since corona i only HEAR my doctor by phone. He is also not an expert on english, but the desk officer at the Salud  for  the FIRST time used a translation phone and actualy that made think about that thing we have at home. That is now not only writing to us but even talking! Until now we were with two a la casa but know there seems to be a third one, ha,ha.

Regards and all the best, Ron

Get a translator, it may be expensive but not understanding medical advice or instructions can be life threatening. Imagine you were a UK General Practitioner faced with a spanish speaking patient, would you be expected to speak spanish. I think not
