I missed this one. I thought Villas was talking about yesterday's "disappearing" post about Black Lives Matter. On that thread, Kelvin had made an interesting suggestion that, instead of removing statues and monuments that offend, they are developed somehow to bring history up to date (sorry, Kelvin, I'm paraphrasing from memory because, as I said, the thread has disappeared).
Coincidentally, the artist Banksy, who hails from Bristol, made a suggestion on this Twitter account yesterday that I think would be a really good compromise, not least because it keeps the statues in public spaces to provoke reflection and debate:
"Here’s an idea that caters for both those who miss the Colston statue
and those who don’t. We drag him out the water, put him back on the
plinth, tie cable round his neck and commission some life size bronze
statues of protestors in the act of pulling him down. Everyone happy. A
