We have a couple over 60's who arrived from Dublin last week, the female who is overweight has had a persistent cough since arriving and as we have a quad house keeps us awake at night as the walls are not exactly sound proof. What responsibility has she to have a Covid test and report to the authorities and isolate for 5-10 day's. I would be interested in people's views.

Hi Stephen68,

The lady's cough could be the result of having compromised lung function from a variety of conditions, none of which are necessarily Covid-19; she may have a cold or, like me, her throat may be irritated by air conditioning, such as on her flight, or from using it in the property.  Perhaps just say a friendly "hello" and ask her if she's OK?

In any event, unless you're planning to be in a confined space with her, it's unlikely you'd catch anything she has anyway.  The advantage of the unusually high temperatures we've been having in Spain is that any aerosol emitted from the throat and lungs that could transmit infection evaporates very quickly.

Kind regards,

Kim

Wow !, age over 60 irrelevant, from Dublin irrelevant, over weight irrelevant ! Basically the lady next door has a bad cough, have you never had a cough. It could be due to any Non covid related cause. Cut her some slack, she probably is more concerned about her cough than you realise. Don’t worry, you don’t appear to be in direct contact with her.

I had Covid here three weeks ago. I fully isolated for 12 days. I am definitely negative now. But my cough lingers.

She’s not in your house! And as has been said, there could be a myriad reasons for this - ie. currently in our area there is a summer cold and cough going around. My husband had it for three days and has a small intermittent cough left over, I have currently got it and am surviving on hot lemon and honey. My Dutch friend who has just returned to Holland has messaged to say she has it........

But what relevance, pray, does the poor woman’s weight have? Again there may be many reasons for this.
