Has anyone on the forum upgraded from 3.5kw to 5kw and if so have you noticed a large or small increase in monthly bill. Also is it simply a matter of going into Iberdrola’s office to arrange. Thanks

Depending on the particular property it may be necessary to have the electrics inspected to see if they are up to the higher potencia.

The amount will no doubt vary between providers but generally a higher potencia will mean a higher monthly standing charge.

Just to add to the other replies, I went into the Iberdrola office to reduce mine.

Often when the account is set up eg by a solicitor, they put you on a higher potential (resistance) than you need. I know your case is the opposite but thought it might be useful to other readers.

You will need to get a boletin electrico certificate from an approved electrician who will check your electric installation to see if it will safely hold a higher power. The certificate varies in price depending on the electrician but can be between 80€ and 150€. If you need to rewire or change any installations to upgrade to higher power then this is charged separately so may be an idea to get a couple of quotes! Once your installation is certified safe to upgrade then if you have a smart meter your electric company can do this automatically from their offices and your standing charge will increase slightly depending on what kW you want to upgrade to.
