He also said, the house owner has to pay by law all the utility bills for the property, even if it has squatters in.

Preposterous, but you will be taken to court if you refuse to pay?

I once had a Cafe/Pizzeria which I sold in 2012, the guy I sold it to did not pay the electricity bills.  Endesa sent the bills to my home address. I went to their office and found that the Account was still in my name. I asked them to terminate my account at the cafe and they refused even after seeing the transfer documents. They told me that If I did not pay they would cut off the power to my home. I went to see the owner ( A Lawyer) of the cafe property who had also retained 2k in case of any bills I might have had from before the transfer. He contacted the new owner and they went to settle up with Endesa and pay the outstanding sum. Incidentally Endesa in those days (2010) first disconnected you then when settlement was not made removed the meter etc. Reinstallation/Inspection etc cost a whopping 4K.

Seems Spanish law here is on the side of the perpetrators?

Our administrator who is a lawyer, and Spanish,is embarrassed by the laws in his own country!

I lived for 30 years in Italy and as far as laws and taxes go they are the masters with over 180,000 laws and 1700+ taxes.

a couple of examples-

A bar owner puts a bowl of water outside on the terrace for the dogs, Fined 160E for unlawful occupation of public space.

A baker "Gives" a bread roll to a mentally handicapped kid without a receipt, No money changed hands! Finance police stopped the kid, result baker fined 500E.

A guy hires a pedalo, while he is out on it the finance police with their boat stop him. They ask for the receipt which he doesn't

have with him, They take his details  and a fine is issued.

We are still waiting for the court's resolution of a will from an initial judgement in 1998 regarding property left to my wife's father in 1995. He died in 2000. We are also worried that the other parties did not pay the court costs and that we may be forced to pay even though we won and have not received anything. .

You can tell your lawyer friend that it is not so bad here after all!

Another thing comes to mind. I don't know if it is the same here but in Italy it is forbidden to work on your car or motorbike apart from what is mentioned in the owners handbook. I have an original, owners hand book for a 1938 Morris 8 that I once owned and it goes into great detail about changing the big end shells e.g., the rest I think you can imagine.

Hola    in 1967 (or was it 9?)  outside the American Embassy in London    I was arrested for protesting about the Vietnam war

then banned for life from America         in the mid 70s I was again arrested  (can´t remember why "spaced out at the time")   and charged

I am sure it was the fashion police

In school  (Tenby) a group of us found a lot of change on one beach  ,so bought cider and battery water,  arrested by the Police  (not charged)

Then some of us tried this new "drug" called gunpowder  (the Police let us off)

mid 80s  I was yet again pulled into Bath Police station asked many questions   OK I admit now it was me   "who planted cannabis seeds in the front plant pots"

So the UK is a Police state   always has been

Reported in the local English press lately, there have been many arrests all over, from Elche to Orihuela and all points in between for burglaries etc

At least it seems that someone is doing their job, The Guys from "Todo por La Patria" seem to have really gotten into gear lately!

I noticed the road blocks yesterday pm at the Mercadona roundabout coming from the AP7 towards Torrevieja. with some foreign plated vehicles getting extra special attention.

Think the road blocks are to catch folk who have left their own district, which of course you aren't allowed to from 3pm Fri to 6am Monday?

We were stopped two weeks ago,and reminded that we would face a hefty fine from the next weekend if we left our district.
