Hola    in 1967 (or was it 9?)  outside the American Embassy in London    I was arrested for protesting about the Vietnam war

then banned for life from America         in the mid 70s I was again arrested  (can´t remember why "spaced out at the time")   and charged...

...

I am sure it was the fashion police

In school  (Tenby) a group of us found a lot of change on one beach  ,so bought cider and battery water,  arrested by the Police  (not charged)

Then some of us tried this new "drug" called gunpowder  (the Police let us off)

mid 80s  I was yet again pulled into Bath Police station asked many questions   OK I admit now it was me   "who planted cannabis seeds in the front plant pots"

So the UK is a Police state   always has been

YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY CAREFUL. THE OTHER DAY I WAS HANGING OUT THE WASHING AND A SNEAK THIEF SNUCK INTO MY LIVING ROOM AND NICKED MY PIRELLI CALENDAR. LUCKILY THE POLICIA WERE DRIVING PAST WHEN HE RAN AWAY. THEY ARRESTED HIM AND HE GOT 12 MONT

Hi.

We have lived in Torrevieja for over 6 years now,and not experienced any crime.

Our many free newspapers obviously report crimes, but nothing out of the ordinary, that you wouldn't find anywhere else?

We lived in Manchester....enough said!

I'd go out at night without my husband.

Both of us have always felt safer here than the uk.

If we go into Town at night,we feel perfectly safe.

I wouldn't say the crime rate is high here at all.

Squatters are rearing their ugly heads, but if you report they have broken in,in the first 24 hours of them moving in,you have a good chance of getting them out.

I wouldn't hesitate to move here, cost of living us amazing too.

Good luck, whatever you choose to do.

Cost of living amazing? We returned from Torreveija in October and found the food prices a lot higher in supermarkets than back home, personal care item nearl twice the price in some cases.Cost of eating out was on par what we pay in uk.

We must be shopping at different supermarkets?

Have to agree to disagree on this one?

Apart from Pork chops the UK is much more expensive on a type of product (Not a specific make). Obviously if you buy British products here then they may be double or more than the UK prices. Go to Tesco or Iceland here then of course you will pay a premium price. Knowing where and when to shop here is also Important depending on what you are buying.

Eating out...............In the UK last year 11quid for a Margarita pizza, 6E here. English breakfast, 3.5E + here. But you can pay  200E also depending where you go and and eat and drink. A pint of lager here normally 2.50E.

Agree, never understood the comments about how cheap it is to live here, the cost of electrical items is much higher here in Spain, same with sanitary ware for fitting out a bathroom, cars are more expensive than in the UK.

Less choice and more expensive. The Supermarkets here in Spain are decades behind the UK, dont even do something as simple as cash back.

Lot cheaper to live here in Benidorm than it was in the UK. Rent is half price, only electricity and internet to pay. No water bill, no tv licence, no gas bill, no (dreaded) rates bill, no buildings insurance to pay, no expensive maintenance costs. The public transport here is second to none so I do not have or need a car so.....no car tax, insurance, mot, repair or maintenance costs and no petrol bills....

Eating out is around half price which often includes a bottle of wine. Beer half price. Bus price is €1.55 to anywhere in a 10 mile radius of Benidorm centre. Healthcare is second to none and much more efficient than the UK health service.

Sunshine, beaches a healthy lifestyle......perfect.

I still back Spain for the cost of living (in general)

Patagonia Steakhouse, delicious food,3 course huge meal, free bottle of wine for 26€ for 2 people.

Might be wrong, but can't see a uk restaurant giving the same value for that quality of food.

In the UK,we had a tiny terraced house,in a not so good area, and the community charge will be around £1.300 now per year, here the Suma, and urb fees 420€ per year, plus there's no filthy litter strewn streets.

Free parking everywhere you go too.

Just one last observation,in the uk,we didn't have bin men who looked film stars,we do here!!
