Lot cheaper to live here in Benidorm than it was in the UK. Rent is half price, only electricity and internet to pay. No water bill, no tv licence, no gas bill, no (dreaded) rates bill, no buildings insurance to pay, no expensive maintenance costs. The public transport here is second to none so I...

... do not have or need a car so.....no car tax, insurance, mot, repair or maintenance costs and no petrol bills....

Eating out is around half price which often includes a bottle of wine. Beer half price. Bus price is €1.55 to anywhere in a 10 mile radius of Benidorm centre. Healthcare is second to none and much more efficient than the UK health service.

Sunshine, beaches a healthy lifestyle......perfect.

I still back Spain for the cost of living (in general)

Patagonia Steakhouse, delicious food,3 course huge meal, free bottle of wine for 26€ for 2 people.

Might be wrong, but can't see a uk restaurant giving the same value for that quality of food.

In the UK,we had a tiny terraced house,in a not so good area, and the community charge will be around £1.300 now per year, here the Suma, and urb fees 420€ per year, plus there's no filthy litter strewn streets.

Free parking everywhere you go too.

Just one last observation,in the uk,we didn't have bin men who looked film stars,we do here!!

What a out inv0come tax 26000 joint income UK oly 1000 taxable in Spain 12000 taxable ,i.e. 200 in UK 2500 in spain

This has to be a serious contender for post of the week! Not only is it incomprehensible but it could be suggesting you pay tax in both countries which of course is incorrect.

Care to try again?

Totally agree.

Our rates for the year were slightly less than my mothers monthly rates up until last year when she left us. Almost no heating costs and Lamb chops at 8.80E a kg, Cod at 6.95 KG, Sangre de toro 15% at 1.65 litre. As for income tax we are under the allowance for over 70s. My wife is Italian and a good fork so we don't EVER eat ANY ready to eat food ! Our limit at Iceland or Tesco is English butter and Pappadams plus the free newspapers. I lied we bought some mince pies at Cristmas!

I think the crime rate subject has had substantial coverage. Typically these threads tend to wander off subject..........so sorry.

Hi everyone,

We are looking at properties in Torrevieja and seriously contemplating buying one. Infact we've made enquiries about many of different properties. However, after reading a lot of negative  feedback with regards to the crime rate, we are now somewhat reluctant.  One comment was very dist...

...urbing and really frightening as its been revealed that burglars have been gassing properties with intentions of robbing unresponsive people in their beds. It literally made me feel sick.

Can anyone give me information about this subject please as we are supposed to be putting a deposit on a property next week.

Other crime in the area doesn't concern me as much as this. After all crime is part of every day life everywhere.

Thank you in advance.

Pauline & Michelle x

I take it there is crime or criminals where you live in the UK at the moment.

Crime and burglaries happen in every town in every country in the world. It would be nice to live in a crime free area but that area doesnt exist. What you have to do is take precautions and become as secure as possible. Torrevieja is as safe as anywhere else on the Costa,s. Dont let the criminals win.

Good luck in your search.
