Hi,

I think you have had some really solid advice already from others, but would like to add one very important piece of information for you to think about.  Before we moved here we put together a list of pros/cons to help with a decision.

We also asked ourselves 'what will we do when living here'?  It may sound a daft question, but it isn't, because away from all the financial considerations, it's important to have a plan for the future. Spain isn't perfect (no country is), but away from the advantages of the climate, you have to think about what to do, e.g. hobbies, groups to join and life interests? We are really glad we thought about this because it made the transition into Spanish life so much easier.

Best of Luck

Malcolm

HI ALL

I FIND MYSELF AT THIS STAGE IN MY LIFE ALONE, DO I MOVE TO SPAIN, I HAVE NO FAMILY OR FRIENDS IN SPAIN AND MY FINANCIAL POSITION ISNT FANTASTIC.

I WILL HAVE CASH OF ABOUT 100,000 AND A PENSION FUND OF 65,000, I DONT HAVE ANY FURTHER INCOME AND MY UK STATE PENSION DOESNT START UNTIL I AM 66 YEARS OLD, WOULD I BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO LIVE IN SPAIN, I WOULD HOPE TO BUY A SMALL PROPERTY AND LIVE ON THE REMAINING FUNDS.  I DONT HAVE AN EXTRAVAGANT LIFESTYLE IN ENGLAND, ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT.

I AM IN TORREVIEJA UNTIL MONDAY, HAVING SPENT A WEEK LOOKING AROUND, I HAVE FOUND IT QUITE DIFFICULT, I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR A BRITISH ACCENT, I AM TRYING TO LEARN SPANISH AT HOME AT THE MOMENT, BUT HAVENT FOUND THE LOCALS TOO FRIENDLY OR IS IT JUST ME

I HAVE MADE ONE DECISION I DONT WANT TO LIVE ON THE SEAFRONT AS I THOUGHT I WOULD.

I AWAIT IN ANTICIPATION

ANNE

There are plenty of good properties on the market. Rent for a while and explore different areas! Visit a few properties and see for yourself. We bought an apartment having previously owned a house in an urbanisation. There’s something to suit everyone and plenty of groups to join. Learn some basic Spanish, even a few sentences is good.

Thanks for all the information, it's so difficult, when you are on your own.Decisions, decisions don't feel any further after spending a week here

Hi I’m on my own too. Was living in Gran Alacant, for two yrs, renting. Way to quiet for me and to expensive, for my budget.

I’m back here again, living with friends,  for three months, while I look around for something to buy.

The areas I’m interested in are ...... altea, albira And lamarina. Somewhere with good bus links, and lots of bars and restaurants.

Not to far from airport. Any other suggestions welcome.

Hi Linda

Just seen your message arrived in Spain on September 12th and I am looking at a property opposite  the marina bar, have heard so many conflicting reports about Torrevieja now you have lived here 6 months  what are your views and living life by the Marina Bar only concern noise? I have visited only during the day.

Thanks

Hi

I don't actually live in Torrevieja, but up the road a bit in the Cabo Roig area. This is a good area! Lots of bars, restaurants and La Zenia shopping centre nearby. Beaches pretty much on your doorstep too.

Just a thought..............

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Yes I agree but didn’t want to be the first to say. Maybe best for this lady, to change her profile. Just a suggestion. I’m on my own too, but very guarded.

Please be careful.

Hi Anita27

If you can live of your savings in the UK it will be easy here in Spain but if you need to work then there could be a problem unless you have a usefull skill. Jobs are far and few and often low paid.

Wishing you luck
