ID Card / NIE / DNI number

Hi, we own a home in Villena and we have NIE numbers but we don’t live permanently in Spain. We have a Spanish bank account and they have been sending us messages saying we should be updating our ID cards and to get in touch. I ignored it as first thinking it was for residents only but they keep writing and a think there’s a deadline.
Do I need to do anything?
Is there a problem with us having NIEs and/or a Spanish bank account and not being full-time residents?
What’s a DNI?
