i/we have been considering doing the trip, but i'm on the understanding your travel and car insurance will be invalid if you travel to countries on the FCO's amber list? Knowing insurance companies they will do anything not to pay out at the best of times. Given that its a long journey and things happen is it really worth the risk if it could financialy ruin you if the worst happened?

Hi there
My travel insurance is certainly invalid if I travel against FCO advice, in this instance, due to covid. Other members have secured travel insurance, including cover for covid, however it appears it’s usually on the basis of “being under 60” and/or “no pre existing conditions”. In other words, it’s with conditions.
Can’t say about car insurance as we’ve never driven down. I guess I’d be inclined to give your respective insurers a ring and then take it from there
We have flown to Spain during a time of restriction, and my rationale was this. I’m going to my own home, so I don’t need “loss of accommodation”. The flights were cheap so if I lost them, it was no big deal. The chance of losing my luggage was slim. Yes, I know it does happen, but it was a calculated risk I was ok about taking.
That sort of left the health aspect, which I felt was adequately covered by my EHIC. The worst case scenario, it I popped off while I was there, just cremate me, as would happen if I was in the U.K.
Just my thoughts of course, I’m not suggesting you should follow suit 🤪🥂

Just checked with my car insurance and insurance is still valid to drive to Spain via France, all that is needed is the Green Card which you request from your insurer. Travel insurance is is a diffent animal. I have mine through a Lloyds bank account by AXA. They will not cover you if you are travelling against the FCO's advice, including Amber list countries.
Could turn-out to be a costly trip?

Our insurance company just sent us a green card for travelling by car through france to Spain. (Tesco insurance)
Hi Saltydog
I guess so unless you’re happy to use similar criteria. My accommodation was never going to cancel, my flights weren’t cancelled, my luggage wasn’t lost and I arrived home in one piece 😉
If you’re going to drive, you’ve already negated flight cancellations and lost luggage. Your history suggests it’s your property. That just leaves the health. If your EHIC is still in date, you’ve got emergency health cover. For any minor niggles, your local pharmacy will be helpful I’m sure Not so bad eh? 🤪🥂

Fantastic. One less thing to worry about 👍
Hello
Are you returning via France with your dogs?
If so is it just the AHC and tapeworm treatment required?
thanks in advance
