COVID-19 TESTS - 6 replies

kevinw1963 Posted by kevinw1963 in Coronavirus discussion in Mil Palmeras: Covid-19 news and updates on Fri Nov 13, 2020 8:50pm

Hello. This is my first post so apologies if this has been asked before.

I am travelling back to the UK 28th November but will be staying with my Dad who is 81. I feel, to be on the safe side, that I should have a test done beforehand, for my Dad's sake as much as mine.

Does anyone know if and where I might be able to get one done?

Thank you in advance.

Kevin.

Some Good Brexit News - Higher Education - 1 replies

Kelvin1960 Posted by Kelvin1960 in Brexit and the EU: living, holidaying and moving to Pinar De Campoverde on Fri Nov 13, 2020 8:23pm

I received an email today ... Update on Gov.UK   Living in Europe

It looks like UK Citizens living in the EU will retain access to Higher Education in the UK at the "UK Resident Fee Scale" until 2027. Until this, it looked like Brits living in the EU would need to pay the "International Student Fee Scale" from next year - which is 3 or 4 times higher. Good news for anyone with teenagers aiming to study in the UK. Also good news for any oldies who like to do a bit of Uni study to keep the little grey cells alive.

I am returning to Miramar soon and I would like to ask if anyone has recently exchanged their UK driving Licence for a Spanish one. Is the process something which is straightforward or do I need professional advice please?

Changing Driving Licence - 6 replies

Bridg0108 Posted by Bridg0108 in Driving, hiring, buying and owning a car in Pinar De Campoverde on Fri Nov 13, 2020 2:43pm

I would be grateful if anyone in Campoverde could advise the procedure, who they used and the cost of getting their driving licence changed from UK to Spanish? I'm not sure exactly where to start, but I believe I need to organise a medical, fill in some forms followed by a visit to Alicante?  Thank you!

Lote 154 available today, 13th Nov ... TIE pickup in Alicante - 5 replies

Kelvin1960 Posted by Kelvin1960 in Brexit and the EU: living, holidaying and moving to Pinar De Campoverde on Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:02pm

My wife and I picked up our TIEs today (benefiting from Kimmy's guide).

Lote 154 was available.

A few points to share

- the building serves several immigration-type functions

- there were people there of several nationalities seeking services (not just Brits collecting TIEs)

- looking at the gateway, the right-hand queue on the street was for TIE collections. The left-hand queue was for other services

- We arrived at 10.10 am (we had somewhere else to go first). There were about 50 people waiting for TIEs, and 100 others

- We left at around 11am, by which time those numbers had multiplied

- a policeman controlled people inside the entrance, but couldn't control the people on the pavement as well

- social distancing was not observed on the pavement

- a few people were so proud of their noses that they displayed them over their masks

- an animated quarrel broke out on the pavement, which provided some light entertainment !

We wore masks and face screens (plastic visors) - if you are planning to collect your TIE, and have a visor, wear it.
