Geos Posted by Geos in General Torrevieja discussion on Fri May 3, 2024 12:35am

Hi everybody,

I am a native Spanish speaker by birth living between the UK and Torrevieja.  I would love to help expats of any nationality improve their Spanish.  The idea is to meet up in groups, couples, or individually.

There are people visiting Torrevieja and its surroundings it would be nice to teach them some Spanish.

Hi, does anyone have experience of applying for a NLV, any recommendations of agency used? I’m aware of self- application, but I’d rather pay and everything go seamlessly, therefore a recommendation of an agency would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Gary.

Leroy Merlin policy's Price adjustment? - 4 replies

serge69j Posted by serge69j in Where to buy things in Punta Prima on Thu May 2, 2024 8:49pm

In case anyone has experience or has done this before, I tried to contact Leroy Merlin but received conflicting information from different employees. The official website provides minimal information in this regard. I made a big purchase of wall panels, totaling about 1000 euros. After 3 days, I found out that they had put this product on sale. I asked about a price adjustment because I was still within the return guarantee timeframe. The first person told me it wouldn't be a problem, but he got busy with an appointment and directed me to another coworker. The second person told me they don't do that at all, but due to a language barrier, he directed me to a third person. The third person told me that price adjustments are possible, but because it was a delivery, I would have to pay for delivery again and return all the products, then place another order with new delivery, which would require an additional payment. Is this a common practice in Spain? Does anyone know if they have any policies like price adjustment or lowest price guarantee? I just want to be clear, I'm not looking for a return, I simply want a price adjustment.

Mobile Phones Banned in Schools - 2 replies

marcliff Posted by marcliff in General Rojales discussion on Thu May 2, 2024 7:57pm

In a Valencian Order to be published tomorrow, mobile phones will be banned in schools and educational institutes as from Monday next, 6th May 2024.

They will be banned inside the school, in play and recreational areas and extra curricula classes. Some junior schools have already banned them in classes for some time but this new ruling bans their use throughout except in two particular cases. 1 is if the class deals with a lesson held through the internet or 2 if there is a medical or family reason for having them which must be cleared by the school board first.

This has been brought about due to lack of attention in classes and the increase in bullying using mobiles to pass messages.

So if you have a child in school here in the Valencian region, make sure they leave their phones at home before attending. In the case of non compliance, the school will have a protocol for taking temporary custody of the phones and will not be returned until after school ends plus a letter to the parents warning them of the new rules. One part of the protocol is that the child must turn the phone off and disable it before being impounded to protect confidentiality.  Some schools issue "points" when this rule has been violated and, if they exceed a certain amount of points, will be allowed to permanently confiscate the phone.

The council has stressed that this measure is being taken to reinforce the role of teachers and their authority in the classroom and to avoid harm to the child's academic progress.

The resolution was announced today which is World Day Against Bullying after so-called cyberbullying has been shown to have increased by more than 50% since 2019.
