Anyone remember the Cod War in the '70s ?

Britain sent Frigates into Icelandic waters to support UK fishing boats (to bully Icelandic boats).

It all ended in tears - Britain had to back down because Iceland threatened to withdraw from NATO, and the Americans needed their air base there.

So American/NATO interests trumped British interests.

But .... I don't suppose today's politicians will recognise the pattern or learn the lesson.

I remember well. History again unfolds. LeckyLes crying about Iceland😛😎👍

Still folk with nothing else to think about other than Brexit I see.... a well, maybe one day they’ll grow up.... wouldn’t hold our breath though.....

Think now that Italy has shut down their most productive areas due to Covid-19 will spur on a strong right wing sentiment there .... Itexit next?..... something to talk about then... lol

Kelvin, I do remember some of that Cod War fishing incident.

At the time I thought If it came to a stand off Britain would 'batter' the Icelanders

Kelvin, on that point.

Only last week, I phoned my missus and asked her if she wanted me to pick up Fish and Chips on my way home from work, but she just grunted at me.

I think she still regrets letting me have a say in naming our twins !

😀😀😀😀😀
