Hi Ange,

You´re right, of course, but I object to Gemily applying his/her personal definitions to my words - especially when he/she is, at best, uninformed about the subject matter.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

where did I say I had not read anything about the High Court judgement against Michael Gove?

Aitch.

Your words - page 15: "to be honest, apart from you mentioning it on this forum I have not heard that much about the matter."

Hi Kim,

you misunderstand my words, nowhere do I mention that I have not read the High Court judgement, I had read the judgement and as I said in my later post not that dramatic (in my opinion). I would not just answer without knowing what you were talking about, that would be pointless.

Aitch.

Hi Aitch,

Yes, you didn´t make that clear.  It probably makes sense to simply agree to disagree on the matter.

Regards,

Kim

Hi Kim

Why are you wasting your energies with this?

You should know better than most that some people just want to argue. Note I say argue, not debate.

I swear, they just trawl through threads, looking for an opinion/s that differs to their own, then start with the less than helpful remarks, often when the topic has almost “blown itself out”

Their replies appear to become incoherent, such is their determination to respond to each and every post they “disagree” with.

I don’t necessarily agree with every post on this thread, but at least most posters have taken the time and trouble to explain their rationale, rather than than just denigrate what others have said 🤪🥂

By the way I don't trawl through anything I read the comments and if they're disingenious I will reply that's my freedom of speech, I find the Boris bashing very tedious. I wouldn't mind if the criticism  thrown at Boris was constructive but it's not, it's just slagging him off, I wouldn't want his job for all the money in the world, and if  someone would come forward who thinks he/she could do a better job then that would be great.

Sorry Gemily1. Disingenuous? How on earth can you decide that another members views are disingenuous? I think what you mean to say is you don’t agree with what they say, and that is your right, as you say.

Asking who would do a better job is like asking who would do a worse job. We’ll never know, it’s unprecedented. Unless we were to replicate exactly, in a parallel universe, it’s the unanswerable question.

I enjoy reading the debates between our more politically enlightened members; I find them thought provoking and generally, I learn something. What I don’t find particularly palatable are throw away remarks that appear to be there only to be provocative or insulting, for example

“My emotive language is extreme for quoting something you’ve said. If you don’t like my reply don’t put abusive language on in the first place.I don’t apply my definition of hate to anyone but what you wrote I found offensive and hateful”

I couldn’t really get what this was referring to, and I did look! 🤪🥂

It seems that if you criticise the UK government handling of Covid you are by default a traitor and should move to another country!!

It's a worry that you now have to sing God Save the Queen before breakfast, salute the flag and repeat 50 times "everything is rosy" or you face deportation.

That reminds me of what happened to another country not that long ago where unswerving devotion to a leader turned out very badly for them.

Healthy debate is positive.

Unfortunately flag waving populism/ nationalism is very much de rigueur at the moment and BJ knows how to exploit it. The attitudes of superiority, 'us first' and F everyone else are ones that often come to the fore at times of difficulty/uncertainty and have often not turned out well. Hopefully the demise of Trump and other evangelists of intolerance such as Le Pen mean that people are starting to see through them.

Then you should move to your precious Europe if you dislike your country, but I suppose you have a good job which will prevent this.

Shouldn’t it be “our” and not “my” precious Europe? As someone who obviously has a tangible connection to Spain, (otherwise I fail to understand why you’re on this site) I would have thought your derisory use of ‘precious Europe’ somewhat hypocritical, parochial and jingoistic.

Furthermore, in a democracy (which the UK can just about qualify to be, though it’s being fast eroded) I can dislike what my country has become, after being as proud as anyone for some of its achievements.

Unfortunately the jingoistic, flag waving intolerants that have hijacked patriotism off the back of Brexit, division and hatred has left me and many others with nauseating distaste of how our country is seen in the world, including ‘our precious Europe’. This is furthered by the ‘just suck it up and accept it’ responses I get from those like yourself.

Maybe I might move permanently to Spain, maybe I might join a campaign to re-enter EU membership again, maybe as devolution internally  occurs in the UK I might move to Scotland and gain my EU membership back that way. I still have choices, I don’t impose my will, or deny others from long and hard fought freedoms that extreme Brexiteering has tried to do.

And for the record I hope England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 wallops the Azzuri on Sunday!
