I'm setting up a bank account to pay into for the next 3 months.  Health care is another thing which is probably going to need an address in Spain, I forgot about that.

So that long term rental is looking like a must again... then healthcare, padron and residency application.  It's 6 months before you're tax resident isn't it? So if we arrive in Oct, that'd be Apr if I understand that right.
...

...

It'll be nice to get a feel for the amount of time between applying and getting an appointment for residency in Alicante.  It's probably all up in the air at the minute after the change last week!  Reason being, it'd be nice to try and time this so that the residency appointment is shortly after the bank account has been open and fed for 3 months...

Maybe we should speak to our landlord to agree a slightly earlier departure.  Stupid brexit!

Sounds like you have it all sussed out nicely Simon. Keep it up and you will sail through nicely.

Yes.....after reading the threads all looks good. I've been paying in £700 GBP every month for the past 3 or 4 years so might increase it very soon.

As per the comments it would definitely be interested to see what the savings requirements are. When Brexit was imminent I cleared my bank account down to €2000 because I spoke to  numerous residents who advised that they had heard stories of Spain taking money from bank accounts. I understand that this wasn't restricted to UK people but a mixture. I have no idea if this is true as it wasn't substantiated. Could just be a rumour of a rumour but I didn't want to take the chance!

I'm still making my mind up on which way to go in connection with full residencia or wait for all the dust to settle.

I love Spain but it's difficult to let go of Blighty! But........the way it is here (UK) is becoming unbearable.

Hi,

Yes you will need to prove that you have enough income paid into a Spanish bank for a 3 month period which I understand is between €750 - €900 per person. When applying for residency you will need a letter from your bank as proof that it's your account and a stamped copy of the statement. It ...

...will be worth opening a non residents bank account at your earliest opportunity.

Also

Proof of address and Padron ?

When applying for residency you will need proof of address by rental contract (plus photocopies) padron is easy to obtain but make sure it's less than 3 months old (plus photocopies)

Take several photocopies of everything

Our plan was to move out once retired in four years’ time but Brexit has made that plan difficult and after the chaos in this country of our Covid response, I am now thinking of moving out on my own before the WA ends to get residency so that at least one of us doesn’t lose our future healthcare and pension rights. We too had a healthy Spanish bank balance but it has run down over the last few months after hearing that we shouldn’t leave too much money in the account.  I can’t work out if a €9000 deposit made now would mean I didn’t need to wait three months until I can apply though. The other thing is that I also have an Irish passport and I don’t know if it would be worth getting a new NIE linked to my Irish passport instead of the U.K. one which might help with my husband applying for residency too but not until after the WA as it’s not doable for him yet. I’m so confused with what exactly is needed now or what is best to do.

I've heard non of those rumours that your money will be taken, where have those rumours come from?

That did happen in Cyprus some years ago to the accounts that were a bit dodgy but not here in Spain. All false news.

Hi Steve

I believe that they are just rumours but I did speak to someone sometime ago and they actually said they knew someone who it happened to. As always there are always two sides to a story and facts behind these allegations.

Unfortunately it does make you think.

I'm going to create a topic for this to see if there is any actual factual and reliable evidence off someone.

Regards

They are just nonsensical rumours. I know loads of people here in Benidorm and news like that would spread overnight....and nothing is being talked about that at all. A topic like that would just be false and scaremongering.

Hi there. Your posts and many replies are just a bit inconsistent. There is one proper way to get this all done without a fuss and it's by contacting Silvia in Inmo Sanz, in El Campello, 13 km south of Benidorm. It's a professional service but will save you loads of money and despair in the long run. Good Luck. Alex.
