Because it appears they want any spending to be done in ‘England PLC’ as the taxes raised are seen as vital to replenish the exchequer. Which is why all the tv advertising is related to staycations, all the tv programming is about building holiday hideAways or walks in the dales, Freeports to...

Welcome to HMP Pontins, HMP Butlins and HMP Hoseasons, you’ve got your electronic tag on your test and trace or NHS app , community service (voluntary work) will be introduced to harvest crops this autumn, you don’t need to consider ‘foreign’ climes - so sit back and think of England - “Your country Needs You! “ 😂😂😂

Makes sense to try and keep the spending in the UK plus reduce the risk as much as possible of overseas travellers bringing back new covid strains. I am sure all countries will be trying to get as much income as possible from tourists and with the low infection rates in the UK countries will be keen to attract visitors from here.

I must say it's good to see that no one is trying to profit from the situation....oh sorry I see that all the holiday sites ie Pontins, Butlins etc. etc. Have increased their prices by astronomical amounts to RIP off the UK public.  In the past I always found it to be more expensive to stay in the UK, now I shudder to think how much it will cost to stay in the cloud and rain. England has some lovely places to visit if only the weather could be guaranteed.

I am not going to do it but I can see why it would appeal to the government, keeps the money in the country.

In the previous years we went to Spain March-April and Sept - Nov., never normally go in July/August. The reason being it's too hot and crowded in Orehuela Costa  mid-summer and the weather suits us better in England. We have booked flights for 2 weeks from mid-June but mainly to check the house out.

I'm sure many will be trying to get as much as they can. It will be expensive in the UK, supply and demand. I wonder what the prices will be for flights in the summer? Summer weather in Spain is a plus for some but not for all.

I just priced up 2 return flights with KLM doing a hop over from my local airport to Schipol and down to Alicante. In September it cost us about £380 with cabin bags only. Same routine for end of May this year would cost over €1100 !!

Forget it!I’m waiting until I can come out longer in July and via Eurotunnel. So basically those 5 day , long weekends and week stays are going to be thing of the past. It’s just not cost - effective to use economist language. That means Spanish businesses will take a hit , off season too when they relied on us second homeowners giving them a boost.
I’m now seriously considering applying for the non-luc visa before I retire at the end of the year. I can’t be doing with the uncertainty and then maybe go for full res in 5 years.

I've just done the same checks for my son from Manchester at end of May beginning of June. Return cost around £100-£150 with hand luggage. So not over the top. The only thing that will increase the value is the extortionate costs of tests. Not too bad coming to Spain, but ridiculous going back. Especially as he has had both Covid Jabs. Good to see not all airlines are cashing in on the easing of travel.

I appreciate that you may usually go to Schipol first, but this is not the usual port of call to travel to Alicante. If you want to travel to Alicante so much, why not fly direct. Surely that would be much cheaper.

The airlines are saying ,you can get a cheaper test flying with them ,the thing that annoys me regarding the testing is obviously the cost ,but with this 72 hr malarkey you have to put more planning into the trip ,especially if not flying ,for the moment gone are the days when you booked a flight and just had to make your way to airport

Yes I've seen that. They do the pre departure test and 1 other. What gets me is that you book day 2 and day 8 test. You can have another at day 5 to cut short the quarantine, but you cant use the day 8 test early you have to BUY another. Also read numerous posts where the tests don't even arrive in time and 1 where these tests didn't arrive at all. They rang the covid test number to say they hadn't received them and they got the NHS test free. What's all that about. Also my son has had the jabs (both) and is entitled to 2 free tests a week 'government policy'. Yet he cant use those tests as return tests. Just a money earner for someone. Wonder who's palms have been greased. Or am I just a conspiracy theorist 🤔
