In that case your private healthcare provider should be informing you about the route to registration with the local private hospital/clinics and then they will advise you on the availability of your medicines and medication.

Steve

Thanks for that. I'll check with them

Would have helped if you'd given the full story in your 1st post.

I stand by what I said about a Spanish doctor and repeat medicines.

Prescriptions are different here in Spain. You don't get a paper Prescription to take to the Farmacia.

You will need to apply for a SIP card from the local clinic and if you get a temporary one then you will get an appointment to see a doctor.

If the doctor gives you tablets he will put that Prescription electronically onto the SIP card for you to present to the Farmacia.

Please take a translator to the clinic otherwise they will not entertain you.

Did you not get healthcare cover as part of your visa application?

Do you have UK or EU passport?

Steve

Steve,

Sorry to disagree with you but I just registered and got a written prescription from a doctor in

Cabo  Roig clinic, no translator required either !!!!!

Well that's a first, never heard that before.

Definitely won't be happening here in Benidorm where the OP wants to be resident.

Here in Benidorm If you can't speak Spanish then a translator is required otherwise you don't get past reception

Just because Benidorm have clamped down doesn't mean everywhere has.

I would venture that a morning spent trying the pharmacies around the Calpe/Denis area would almost certainly be an easier option than trying to get a SIP card!

There is of course no way to guarantee that a Spanish doctor would prescribe exactly the medication you want, any doctor worthy of the title would want to examine you for him or herself and determine the appropriate medication, nor rely on what another foreign doctor may have prescribed in the past.

Hi you used to be able to buy medication in Salinas but not anymore. Prescription drugs are prescription only here and you need a SIP or private medical. There might be some rogue Farmacias where you are, but not here my friend.

Hola...Obtain as much written information from your Uk doctor I’ve been here in Spain 5 years and my Spanish doctor gives me the Spanish equivalent of my Uk medication...Book an appointment with your local Spanish doctor and you’ll need to apply for a SIP card...I hope that helps 🤞🤞🤞

Try the Farmacia they might not have the exact medication but they might have similar. I find keeping my feet cool helps

If you are moving permanently and are a pensioner you will be getting your S1 ,(Google the procedure,),once you get that, you get your SIP card,( here in Benidorm) and are allocated a health centre, nearest to your address and a doctor. With your SIP you can then go to reception and get an appointment, show the doctor your prescription and explain your treatment ,if the doctor decides the treatment should be followed ,or another treatment might be more effective he/ she will make out a prescription, you can get a paper copy for your information only, which will also show the duration of the treatment, as the doctor's prescription is electronic and is linked to your SIP card. You go to any local Farmacia ,present your SIP card, they will pass it through their reader and the prescription will show up on their PC,the Farmacia will then make up the prescription and charge you the "contribution" ( a fraction of the actual cost and which all Spaniards also pay.).Because the prescription is electronic it is linked immediately to your medical record in the doctors and the Farmacia. It is unique to you linked with your SIP card ,you cannot duplicate it by going to another Farmacia as the system logs your activity, very efficient.Your receipt from the Farmacia will show you when you can collect the next one.As a note,if you comfortable talking to people you do not need a translator ,I have never in 20 years plus used one anywhere in Spain, most doctors have an understanding of English and all of them recognise medical conditions.

The health system here is very efficient and straight forward, once you are in the system everything becomes automatic,Covid ,flu vaccinations, very good.

Thanks for that but I'm not a pensioner. I'm 62 and Mrs 61. We are on a NLV.
