Hi Sara

I was going to move to Spain this year either Benidorm or Torrevieja. As other members on here who live in Spain have kindly been keeping us updated since Brexit, the process and requirements are now more complicated. Because of the Covid situation as well I’m ruling 2021 out and if possibl...

...e will holiday for few weeks at a time to recki more this year.

I have done a lot of research and every other day am looking at properties in both Benidorm and Torrevieja, I have been quite a few times and like both resorts equally, you do get lot more for your money in Torrevieja. After seeing various programs on tv about caravan sites the lifestyle did appeal to me BUT for me personally I feel the fees are dead money, over a period of 10 years you can expect to pay between €30.000 - €40.000 plus of course the cost of your caravan!  Which as another member rightly pointed out you can rent a 2 bedroom apartment for the same amount.

My aim is to eventually buy a property outright even if a smaller one when things have settled, also one would hope that the Spanish government will ease certain requirements especially for expats to retire there (with private health care) time will tell.

My advice is to when we’re able to, go out and rent short term (up to 90 days) incidentally if you holiday rent,  although a bit more expensive for say 30 - 60 days at a time you wouldn’t need to open Spanish bank accounts and get references etc. As you will be a tourist, I’m going to do this first when the time is right before buying there.

Two of my closet friends who are retired are putting there plans on hold for the same reasons.

Hope this helps and good luck

The thing is once you understand the hoops buying should allow you to settle down . A bought home is yours to sell if something goes wrong whereas rentals are just a holiday . Am I right in believing that once the residency is resolved with the purchase of the house one would be free to go and come as they please and settle down .

We do need to bear in mind that reveals might not be a sure thing for your home if you are not there . I can understand that the fees for the mobile home site are dead money , as you can buy for that and the ownership costs should be far less than that .

At the moment our biggest hoop is covid . The constant rule changes have not worked in our favour but time passes very quickly and before you know it it’s gone , so while we wait let’s remain hopeful !

I'm sorry you feel like that.

I see that you have not actually started any topics so how do you expect to have quality information?

There are several other expat sites and groups on the Costa Blanca.

Bye and good luck for the future.

Hi Sara

I'm not sure on answering your questions about mobile homes,  but I own a property that needs renovating,1 hour north of Benidorm, in Torrevieja.

I am currently in UK, since December because my Mother is very I'll.

I intend to travel back to Benidorm area as soon as I can.

If you feel you want to chat to me, feel free. I would welcome that.

I can't wait to travel back to Spain to renovate the place in Torrevieja..

Regards

Adrian

.....after 90 days in spain a UK non Spanish resident cannot legally return after 3 days, they would have to come back after 90 days spent outside of the EU...

Hi Kindy, I have a Spanish NI number already but I also have Portuguese residency. However, I've been stuck in UK since November last year (2020) because my Mother passed away and I've been here selling her house and sorting probate etc.. I'm aiming to return in January/February.. Does anyone know if I will encounter any problems on my return to Portugal/Spain ? Never mind the covid situation..

Ok thanks. I'm hoping my Portuguese residency is still ok because I've been out of Spain/Portugal for a year, but for legitimate reasons though..
