Yes I can write up my easy experience but it was 8 years ago before Brexit so of no interest to today's applicants. 

My residencia went very smoothly at minimal cost unlike today!!!

I understand the problems of applying for visas and residency. I know and advise posters in the processes of those applications. And I still say its not worth paying money to Gestors/Solicitors or companies that say they can "do all" when in effect they cannot do anything that can't be done by the applicant. The applicants need to put the initial application to the Spanish consulate in the UK personally. An application by a third party is not acceptable. Wasted cash from the Start.

Companies that can, and do help are invaluable after the applicants have gained their visas.

Hi Jason,

I’ve just gone through the NLV process so I’m going to give you my take on the process.

I used a company to do my application paper work. Easier getting translations done and they know the process. They company I used booked my appointment at the consulate in the UK, however I had to attend in person. They will most likely offer to accompany you to your TIE appointment.

I used Salus health insurance, accepted no problem.

I did my medical certificate in Spain, easier,  and it already came in Spanish. No translation required.

In terms of financial, I put 30k in my Spanish bank account. At the consulate appointment I was asked for proof of pension and I was also asked if I had property and to provide proof. Neither of these two items were discussed as being necessary when I talked it through with the company I used, however I was able to provide the necessary information at the consulate meeting.

I waited almost three months for a positive response from the consulate, they had been on strike early 2022 so there was a backup of applications.

Once your visa is granted you have three months to present your passport for the visa to be applied. Once in Spain you need to apply for your TIE within the first month, appointments are as rare as hens teeth so get on to it asap. I live in the south of the Costa Blanca but ended up in Benidorm for my TIE appointment.

Yes its very important. When you sell your own home in the uk there is no capital gains tax to pay. You can move money to Spain without paying CGT. Get advise and be careful if you own any other property in the Uk or have investments and shares etc..

CGT is paid on Property in Spain and other assets once you become a tax resident, which you must do after residing in Spain after 6 months.

You have said you have enough money for a NLV, so you need to get advise before you move. Blevin Franks are a good company, we got advice from them when we were considering moving to Spain, we decided against moving due to the amount of CGT we would have had to pay.

There is lots to consider when moving to Spain or any country.

When I complete on my house sale next month that's it I won't have any other assets or investments etc in the UK.

I will certainly get some advice as I have a pension and money in the pot that I will be living off.

Hopefully I'll be in Spain by the end of May....

I've decided to use a company to assist with the application. They're going to deal with the medical certificate on the Spanish side too and I'd rather they dealt with the translations.  

I note your comments on the financial side. I too can put a lump sum in a bank account but I'l have proof of pension available as well.

I'm hoping to be in Spain in May so I'll get cracking with it.
