Don't become a Spanish resident until the second half of the year or you might become liable to Spanish capital gains tax. Get advice.

Thanks for your reply.

I've learnt something else and I'll bear that in mind.

Jason.

As tebo53 has advised you must apply for the visa in the UK. You really don't want to affect your chances of a successful outcome by being an 'overstayer' in your dream country. The link below should provide you with the necessary information. I don't think it necessary to engage expensive lawyer...

Hello,

I've started filling out the paperwork for the NLV and on the main application form it asks for my address in Spain.

At the risk of sounding rather stupid I'm not going to get somewhere to live in Spain until the visa is approved so can this be left out or am I missing something ?

Thanks.

Not answering this particular point, but if your house sale is just about to complete, you probably don't want to apply for your NLV until the second half of 2023.

The Spanish tax year runs from 1st January to 31st December.  If you spend more than half of this year in Spain then you will be regarded as tax resident for the whole year and potentially have to pay Spanish capital gains tax on the sale of your UK property.

Hi Jason,

You have to present the initial application for a non lucrative visa personally at the Spanish consulate in the UK. You will need to show (and prove) an income of €28,000 per annum from solid income sources like stocks and shares, pensions etc. You will need to have full private (with no co pay...

...ments) healthcare paid for a full year. Be careful not to be persuaded to pay Gestors or Solicitors that say they can present your application because they cannot.

Sorry I can't personally recommend any insurance companies.

I have lived in Benidorm for years and love it here. There are several Dog Rescue centres that will be glad for volunteers to help.

The NLV is only part of the application for residency in Spain. You cannot just move to Spain and apply for residency without a visa.

Hi, we used www.legalservicesinspain.com to help prepare for our NLVs and joined ASSSA for health insurance (they are good and even offer dental insurance for under 100 euros per year). Our biggest problem was the time the Spanish Consulate in London requires (months). For the second year our NLVs were submitted in Spain on-line

All that Legal services can do is help fill in forms and offer help once you gain the visa. They cannot present the initial application. An expensive way to make the initial application in my opinion.

Steve, they give you timelines and priorities, recommend official translators and hand hold you through the whole process.  If Jason is happy to do it without balancing wheels then it is possible but when we arrived in Spain last year they were invaluable in getting our NLV/NIE across the line, in terms of rental contract documentation etc. They do err on the side of caution in terms of number or copies of documents etc but they experience the worst and assume that for all. Why don’t you write up your experience Steve so everyone can benefit?

Thanks for your advice.

Having looked at the application process I've decided to get some help with it.

I've seen a few providers such as Visas4spain,Upsticks Spain and Lifestyle Services.

I''m a bit wary of it all and don't want to get ripped off so suggestions from anyone on this helpful forum are appreciated.

I'll have a look at legalservicesinspain.com.

Thanks.
