I highly recommend not to pay any amounts for something you haven't seen to someone you don't know in person. Such money is gone forever and you have little or no chances to ever get it back.

I know and they want 40% of three months rent upfront as well as 1000 euros for a damage deposit.  Also, I'm to do the wire transfer to an individual's account.

I guess that if you dont pay something in front the owner will not keep the property for you since he can not be sure if really you are going to rent.

I understand that I have to make a payment to hold the property.  I just wish they would take credit cards or PayPal so I would have some level of security.  It I do a bank transfer, it's gone.

Thanks for responding!

Private owners can't accept credit cards or Paypal. We would do it if we can.

We can in the states.  You just have to set up an account.  So this is a usual way to conduct businessness in Spain?  I just worry about putting $4k of the retirement fund in jeopardy!

Presumably you also have a contract so agreed the payment dates.  Contracts should be produced for all rentals, short or long term.  We get signed contracts from our guests before taking any payments so everyone is aware of what is expected from each party.  In fact payment details...

... are also set out on the original booking form too.  If it is a legal holiday let and you have a contract and all the details of who you are paying then no worries.  No contract, no details of who the people are, where they live, contact details etc, no license (if a holiday let) then not legal and don't touch it.

They have offered a contract but want the month to be trasferred to a private account.  I tried to find some information on the management company but haven't been able to.  This is the information on the email:

VILLAS MARINA ALTA S.L

Thank you.

The company came up on a Google search.  Telephone 0034 965 83 62 28.  I would call them and ask why is it to go into an individuals private account rather than paying the company.  Ask if they are the agent why can't you pay them instead?

I am in the process of arranging a short term rental in Benissa so that I have something set up for me and my pets when we arrive on November 1, 2018.  They have requrested a substantial bank transfer and don't accept credit cards or paypal.  I am reluctant to do this because of securit...

Is this a safe thing to do?  Is it routine? I have 72 hours to make a decision.

Thanks to you all.  I couldn't do this without you.

Bonnie

We’ve rented a number of times in this area through AirBnB and GHS Villas and have always used credit cards.

Jannali: why do you think that a 11 months contract make her be protected?.

First: protected of what?

Second: If you want to consider a 11 months contract short time ok, but you could be wrong.

Your way will push her to renegociate the contract again before it is finish and the owner can push up the price again of push her from the house without any reason for her to complain in a court.

Long term contracts protects more the tenant, at list she coukd renew the contract for 3 years with same price. If she doesn't like the house or she change her mind she can cancel the concert when it finish (each year) or just pay one month penalty if she needs to break the contract at some point.

Even if the contract says 'Por temporada' the owner will lose in a court if the house is unfurnished, if the contract of water/electric/internet/etc is on tenant's name or in case the tenant needs the 'Padron' in that house for example.

The rule about 11 months doesn't exist. And short time contract is never good for the tenant.

I did.  They said that it would save me money to only have to make one bank transfer.  I think I should wait until I get there.  I was thinking it might be easier to start in Alicante, as they have more available.

Thank you so much.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thank you so much.  I had wanted to have a place waiting for me but maybe I need to get there first.

Thank you for your trouble!

Bonnie
