Hi I have been doing this trip for 15 years, and without doubt the shortest and cheapest route is via Alcoy, Zarragoza, Huesca, Jaca, Somperet Tunnel, into France via Oloron, Dax, Bordeaux, Angouleme, pick up toll south of Poitiers come off toll north of Tours then go via Chatteaudun etc, total c...

...ost in tolls is 25 euros to Calais and saves approx. 100 miles in distance, time approx 20 hours from Alicante, if you need me to give you exact road numbers etc for full journey please ask, believe me this is far and away the best route, i have met up with many drivers over the years and they agree with me this is the best route

We are looking to drive from Javea to Portsmouth UK soon . Could you share your route in more detail ? Not done a drive like this before. Thanks

Hi big Dave,

I have driven this route many times and the fastest route is south from the tunnel towards arrras and on to Paris circular that then goes south on the A75 for clearmont ferrand and milau ( big bridge) , carry on and pick up the coast road towards Perpingon/ Spainish border, Barcelona is approx one n half hour which you skirt around and then basically it’s the AP7 all the way to Catral...via Valencia ...you can do it nonstop in about 16/17 hours if you feel ambitious but we always break it up into at least one overnight stay normally two as we have a dog and like finding new places just off the route to explore and re visit for another day!

There are tolls and with fuel I would guesstimate it will coast you about 300/400 total depending on your vehicle etc. top tip would be to try and re fuel just off the autoroutes at supermarket gas stations as they tend to be a lot cheaper and be aware parking up at certain service stations especially in spain as there are many scammers on the look out for foreign travelers!

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Hi, Take the motorway down west coast via Bolougne and onto Rouen then follow my route this way wii cost you approx 150 euros in fuel and tolls going via Paris etc down to Spain via Barcelona etc, tolls alone will cost approx 180 euros, is a bit faster but not enough that warrants paying 180 euros
