Hi.

We were wondering if any forum members might have any advice for us on a move to Denia. My wife and I have a place in Torrevieja but have decided on a move to Denia for a variety of reasons. We are particularly interested in winter / autumn sun that will not disappear behind Montgó but want to be close to the city/old town. Our preference is for a 3 bed villa with a pool and some nice sea/mountain views. For example, is Montgó be avoided altogether,  or is there a certain elevation you could buy at and still get winter sun.

Thank you for reading this.

Kind regards

Rory and Deirdre

Maybe you should have a look at the areas along the coast road north out of Denia; Les Marines, El Palmar, etc.

Thank you for your reply Herefordjack. We'll certainly check them out. Had a quick look on Google Earth and the beach looks lovely.

Yes, the beaches between Denia and Oliva are great. Deveses beach is our nearest, about 15 mins drive from where we live. Some good little bars and restaurants around there too.

Do not buy too close the MontGo as in winter the sun disappears around 2pm. Going towards Javier or La Sella will give you sun most of the day.

Thank you so much Herefordjack and RoboRs2. You see so many places advertised on Montgó promising sunny 'placement'. But the mountain looms large in any of the pictures. The problem is the views are so tempting.  I suppose it's a big ask to be close to the casco urbano and still have those kinds of views. The orientation of the sea is a bit confusing when we are trying to imagine it  as we are used to the coastline being on the east ( i.e morning  sun) as in Torrevieja (and, indeed, Dublin). That's why we are heading over in March to try and get a proper feel for the place.

We are in Las Marinas, just 2 km from the town centre in the direction of Oliva. We have great views of Montgo! Our terrace faces south and West and has sun almost all day at the moment. It makes a huge difference to the comfort inside at this time of year too. We have a number of restaurants within easy walking, as is the beach and Aldi supermarket. We looked at some stunning houses on Montgo, with super views over the port but couldn’t convince ourselves they were right for us due to shade and possible future difficulty coping with the incline as we get older.
We will be in Dénia in the first week of March. DM if you think it might help to discuss more or meet up

I could be wrong, but if you want longer sunshine hours then I would have thought the area you are already in is better. Denia is a lot greener, that's usually because its wetter. I was up in Denia a few days ago. Very Grey, the beaches were nice and empty. Back through the mountains heading south and blue sky. I live around El Campello. The forecast around Campello for the week was mainly dry and clear. The forecast for Denia was cloud and rain.

Hi swcoulthurst,

Thanks for your post. You make a fair point. I suppose Torrevieja is sunnier, but green is good too. And we have basically fallen in love with Denia. So it's more a question of finding somewhere with the best prospect of winter sun. Thanks again for your help.

Hi try from San Juan/Santa Lucia down to the town or port. I’ve spent many years there and I can now draw an exact line. We get the sun from as soon as it comes up until 4.15pm on the shortest day of the year. X
