Do not buy too close the MontGo as in winter the sun disappears around 2pm. Going towards Javier or La Sella will give you sun most of the day.

yes, Javea side will also reflect heat off the montgo in the evenings and has its own eco system

We are in Las Marinas, just 2 km from the town centre in the direction of Oliva. We have great views of Montgo! Our terrace faces south and West and has sun almost all day at the moment. It makes a huge difference to the comfort inside at this time of year too. We have a number of restaurants wit...

...hin easy walking, as is the beach and Aldi supermarket. We looked at some stunning houses on Montgo, with super views over the port but couldn’t convince ourselves they were right for us due to shade and possible future difficulty coping with the incline as we get older.
We will be in Dénia in the first week of March. DM if you think it might help to discuss more or meet up

This is such helpful information. We’ve narrowed our retirement location to a few places and Dénia is one of them.  We plan to spend a couple of weeks there this fall/winter

Hi try from San Juan/Santa Lucia down to the town or port. I’ve spent many years there and I can now draw an exact line. We get the sun from as soon as it comes up until 4.15pm on the shortest day of the year. X

Thank you so much Sarah. That is really helpful. I could certainly live with that!  We've more or less given up on Montgó,  I think, tempting as the views look. The flatness lower down is also a factor to future proof against creaking bones.

That's really interesting Ther44j. It never occurred to me that the mountain could do that. I can see how it would build up during the day. The thing is, we have really fallen for Denia hook line and sinker. But I think when we come over we'll definitely have a look at the other side of the mountain. It's not a million miles from Denia, really. Javea old town is really beautiful too.  We didn't get as far as the seafront last time.

Jesus pobre is half way between denia and montgo is getting lots if attention from experts due to its quirkiness and ease access to many places and towns (Denis, javea, pedreguer and the valleys)

That's brilliant, thanks Ther44j. I'm off to check it out on Google maps and Earth.

Plenty of nice restaurants around there and a lovely market

Maybe you should have a look at the areas along the coast road north out of Denia; Les Marines, El Palmar, etc.

Hi Rudi

Hope  you don't mind me asking the question, but what's your main reasons for moving from Torrevieja ?

Regards

Will

Hi William. We really fell in love with Denia when we visited last summer.  Torrevieja is lovely and is getting better every year. They are reinvesting a lot of the tourist income in the town and it's clear to see. But we loved how Spanish Denia is. We want to get to use our Spanish (such as if is) and that's much easier in Denia. In Torrevieja, if you try to speak Spanish you are usually answered in English. This doesn't happen in Denia to anything like the same extent. I know that lots of ex pats, both Irish and English  seek out an English speaking community when they move to Spain but we want to immerse ourselves in the Spanish culture and language.  That's it basically.

That's really good, but your Spanish (such as it is) is a major drawback. Fine for normal day to day ie bars and shops. Try going to a doctors or town hall where the spoken language is Spanish with no English speaking staff. We have the same situation here. Mutxamel comes under San Jan hospital. Recent doctors appointments and hospital visits were an absolute nightmare trying to communicate with important medical staff. We can get by, but legal, medical and municipal dealings are very difficult unless you are fluent.
