You will need to apply at a national police station for your NIE.

You will need your passport with at least 6 months validity plus photocopies of all pages.

2 passport size photos.

They usually accept that you need an NIE for the purpose of opening a bank account or to purchase property.

You will need to pay the fees at a bank and take proof of payment.

Simply tell them that you need it to:

  • Buy a car
  • Rent or buy a property
  • Open a bank account
any or all of the above.

You could use  https://mynie.co.uk/

There's lots of info there, and the team are English-speaking. They complete the forms which you then just print off and take with your supporting info.

And, allow a couple of days to find a bank who will take the tax payment, or use an autobank.  We found this to be more problematic than going to the actual NIE appointment (which for us was in Alicante).
