I am looking to apply for Convenio Especial and would like to hear from anyone who has experience of the process and their thoughts.

Many thanks

You need to have been officially resident in Spain for a minimum of 12 months. You need to submit an application together with a copy of the padron (also see below). Present everything in an unsealed envelope at a post office who will stamp the application, seal the envelope and provide you with a certificate of posting. You will be contacted by post with a date and time to attend an office in Alicante where you will sign the agreement and be issued with a SIP card there and then. You will have to meet the full cost of prescriptions. The following link will provide all the details and an application that you can download:

https://www.gva.es/es/inicio/procedimientos?id_proc=17044

You will also be required to provide a letter from the NHS Business Services Authority in the UK or other country if not British, that they are not responsible for your healthcare. Contact details is:

Hi  Also you pay monthly If you are under 65 I think the monthly fee is around €60 and for over 65s the cost rises to around €157 per month until you are 66.  These are prices quoted a few years ago so obviously they will be more expensive now.
