I always think it's a bit of a shame when English people come to Spain and spend all their time with other English people. By going to Spanish restaurants and bars in your village you will get to know the locals and it will help you integrate and FEEL part part of the bigger community.

There's obviously nothing wrong with English bars, but if you use them all the time, it does restrict your growth.

I suspect this is going to open a can of worms and I don't want to upset people, so please don't take this personally, or get defensive. Just think about how good it feels when the local Spanish community know you and speak to you and you won't get to meet too many Spanish people in English bars.

I agree, we love mixing with the locals, most of our neighbours are Spanish do we try to chat, have conversations and get by with limited words and signs. I find the shops great fit helping you out if you ask how to say it in Spanish too.

Yes I try to speak a little too and get better every visit. I can order food, know a lot of products, learnt days, numbers and directions and have basic conversations. We get by as best we can by trying and gave Spanish as well as Dutch, German,  Irish and British friends

That's why I like the bar in the square. All nationalities seem to congregate there.
