Thank you for the very useful information my company pension will only be about 11000 per year but have plenty of savings plus a big tax free lump sum , selling my house and looking to buy a property for about £60'000 . I am also entitled to an Irish passport which will give me Euro citizen , wo...

It’s my understanding if you have an Irish passport you don’t need to worry about the income requirements as you are entitled to free movement as an EU citizen - although they would apply to your partner if you have ones do they don’t have an Irish or other EU passport. You still need private Health

Irish passport or not, if you want to apply for permanent residency in Spain you still need to meet the income and healthcare requirements.

See above link as an Irish citizen you are entitled to live, work or retire anywhere in EU there is no income restriction as far as I can see but you do still need to apply for permanent residency. The health care differs because it is dependent on the country where you previously lived and not your nationality. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong on any of this.

Your link is mainly about being an Irish citizen. Irish citizens are allowed to free movement within the EU but permanent residency in a country is a different matter......

This is a quote from the Irish embassy in Spain:

https://www.dfa.ie/irish-embassy/spain/our-services/new-to-spain/residency-and-entry-requirements/

Changes to the residency regulations

In 2012 the Spanish government introduced new residency requirements for all EU citizens, including Irish nationals.  Under the new rules, EU citizens applying for residency in Spain may be required to produce evidence of sufficient financial means to support themselves (and dependants). Applicants may also be asked for proof of private or public healthcare insurance.

When you apply for residency in Spain, you will need to prove you have full healthcare paid for a full year. The overseas healthcare team in Newcastle UK will only send the application form (for the S1 healthcare) to a Spanish address after you become a legal resident. Bit of a catch 22 situation...

....

After being a legal resident for a year you can carry on with the S1 healthcare or join the Convenio especial to be in the full Spanish healthcare system but there is a monthly fee.

In Spain everyone has to make individual applications for residency and have their own healthcare cover. There might be a company that does family healthcare cover, no doubt someone will give advice.

hi,

just to add my tuppence in, i think in time the uk will come to an agreement with Spain regarding this...

it does actually work round the other way too and the uk is busy warning EU nationals to get their paperwork in order or they will be deported, 400,000 or so of them..

terry

i wonder what will happen after the EU has imploded....
