Not 100% familiar myself on the Gran Alacant area - i'm not a service technician (i'm locked in the office on phones / emails and client support).

I do know we have installed a good few dishes in Gran Alacant over the years. Dishes for UK viewing are available from €299 installed (dish, bracket, fixings, dual LNB & single cable run) & that is for the best 1.4dish currently available - Tecatel Superior offset  (a better dish than the thinner equivalent Famaval offset). There are also bigger / better dishes available - though for a single household with 1 or 2 connections, the 1.4 offset will give you 90-95% of what you get in the UK, all terrestrials. Also options of Sky available.

If IPTV - various costs / options, depending on content you wish to watch.  Internet speeds min 2Mbps stable for SD and approx 5Mbps stable for HD, though can vary a little depending on system - for example there are also 'low bandwidth' systems which will allow IPTV channels at speeds down to 0.7Mbps.

For anyone considering IPTV route - worth checking your internet multiple times / days (peak viewing times) to check stability / speeds - www.speedtest.net

Hi,

Not familiar with this specific urbanisation - or their rules. Most communities ok with private dishes, unless they have their own community based system - some have both. Dish wise 1.4 metres (min) wall or floor mount - cost €299 for the dish and all related fixings and a single cable run - that's for the best dish (reception wise) at that price point. Receivers are priced separately - avoiding Chinese junk and for a European model with local warranty €100 or from €130 for receivers with multimedia and other functions.

Legally - supposedly, you are within your rights as an EU citizen (*well currently anyway ;-) to have a dish installed, with no obstruction from the town halls or any other authority.  https://tvtech.sharepoint.com/Pages/satellitedishplanningpermissioncostablanca.aspx

Hi we paid 500 euros for an aircon unit from euronics across the road in Euronics in Gran Alacant,  it can be used for heat too in the winter, it is far better than an older model we have in the living room. If you can pay the extra to have it drain into the water drainage out on the street it's well worth it, the people who owned the apartment before us just had it draining out into patio where it needs collected into a plastic bottle,  very annoying to keep emptying in summer. I would invest in ceiling fans if you dont have them already as they can save you using aircon as much. We pay 33 euros a month for internet , 8 or 9 euros of this is for the British tv channels. We have found since grannet changed to flexicable our signal on the roof terrace in our apartments is only good at one end whereas before it was better and faster but still happy with the service. You can also arrange to have it turned off when your not there so you don't have to pay. Welcome to Gran Alacant

Regards

Sandra

Hi

I have both dish and sky receiver which gets about 300 freebies channels and works perfectly other than if there’s a bad electrical storm.

I also have firestick loaded with IPTV channels which works 50%of time due to poor WiFi-I would go with dish every time however buy a sky receiver off gumtree or facebook at home(about £30 max) and use it. We brought ours in hand luggage and it works perfectly-no requirement for a viewing card and because we are from Northern Ireland the sky box picks up bbc Northern Ireland and utv etc so would be set to your local uk region which is great for news etc from home.

No need to pay €100 for receiver. The only downside is we can’t record but only watch live tv but others have said humax receiver allows  recording

Hope this helps

Shame the original poster was asking in August 2016 ;-)

Free to air, locally, best picture quality and no subscriptions, agree satellite is the best option. You can also have the option to record, depending on what satellite receiver you are using (or attached recording media)

Re, your firestick - you believe it is not working as weak WiFi, chances are this is not the case, the issue is with the service and (hacked) firestick itself.  A while ago I wrote an article to cover 'everything related to expat TV' various services, pro's & cons - if you scroll down the article a way, there's a section on Amazon Firesticks & streaming and there's some useful information that many may not be aware of. https://www.televisiontechnology.eu/uktv-in-spain
