Agree, It's a long way by car , 400 km plus, I got the train from alicante to Madrid last year took i think  2 and half  hours , nice and easy , but think you would need to double check you can catch a flight back to UK first

It’s about a 4-5 hour drive so not too bad. I don’t mind the drive

Getting to Madrid - I would advise taking the AVE train. I THINK it runs from Alicante. Its quick and better than driving

I was looking into getting a train but seeing as the drive is only 2 Hours more, I’ve decided on getting a hire car.

Hi all

has anyone What is the safest way to travel to the U.K.? I am travelling with my 11 year old daughter. We are currently staying with my parents in Gran Alacant. We’ve been advised to fly either from Barcelona or Madrid. I’m thinking of hiring a car to travel to Madrid and get a flight to Heat...

...hrow. Has anyone/ or know of anyone/ who has recently taken this route? Is this the best way?

Rosanna

I have just finished booking our trip to London for next weekend. There are only 2 AVE trains each day from Alicante to Madrid, first thing in the morning and one late in the afternoon. There is a connecting train from the Madrid train station to the airport at no extra charge. You can get all the information on the RENFE website. Google Chrome automatically translates.

BA still flies from Madrid to Heathrow, but it seems only on Saturdays and Mondays. It is actually Iberia Airlines. But I have not been able to confirm because you can't reach them by phone and their Website is not working.

Not sure if the above helps.

Yes a couple we know on our complex want home 10 days ago via Barcelona with the help of the British consulate got home safe and sound but disappointed on the lack of social distancing and sanitiser that we have in Spain it does not exist in the UK .

You say we have lack of sanitiser in the Uk that’s completely false the shops and supermarkets have an abundance of these goods, the majority of people in the UK do adhere to the social distancing rules also, but as everywhere there are stupid people who won’t be told. There’s a lot of negativity on here about the UK but I would imagine the majority of you expats lived and worked here for a long time before retiring and moving to that lovely country you now call home so the UK is not all that bad.

Hi. I’ve hired a car through Budget, collecting from Alicante airport and dropping off at Madrid airport. Our flight is booked so they’re definitely leaving mid week. I hope you get back ok. Please let me know what the flight is like regarding distancing etc

But they only mention Alicante and Murcia Airports on their website;  nothing about Madrid.
