We don’t actually live in Spain, but go backwards and forwards from UK. So wanted a place near the airport.  We bought a quad in GA (top/alto) about 15 years ago but moved after a couple of years mainly because of the noise on the urbanisation generally and from the neighbouring/joined houses.

We moved to montymar bajo/lower and it is great.  Apart from being so much more quieter (we’re detached now and on a road at the edge of the urbanisation so still have access to communal pool etc, if we wanted it) being where we are we can easily walk to Carabassi bars, GA centre and plaza Mayor so plenty of places to eat and drink.  There’s a really good atmosphere at the latter, particularly in Summer when they have live music in the centre of the plaza for all to enjoy.

Also  good walks from here as close enough to walk to the beach and have a meal or drink along Arenales or walk around el clot.  We found at top Alacant it was a long haul up and down cardiac hill...especially in summer when it’s hot to walk to places.
We walk to the GA centre for shopping too with our trusty shopping trolley (Rupert!!).

So, for us, lower end of Carabassi comes up trumps over the top end - where there is a lot lot choice for places to go as opposed to the top end where you have the hill to contend with to get to most places and the bars there are are mainly at the side of the street.

Good luck, and hope you enjoy wherever you decide 😎😊

I understand what you mean about changing to a detached home. We had a town house for over 13 yrs. Neighbours can change and not always for the better. We sold our house in summer 2018, but have not found exactly what we want to buy yet. We want to be able to walk out at night to restaurants etc, but don’t want to be too enclosed/ overlooked with other houses. We will keep looking until we find the right property and until then we will take holidays in Spain. xx

Hi Janet,

I note you are looking for a detached property, that will exclude some of the urbs in GA straight away, may I suggest that you go online and download a copy of the Gran Alacant Advertiser, it's free, at the back you will find a detailed map of GA showing the various urbs which may help a bit. The...

...re is always likely to be a trade off between quiet, secluded property and proximity to shops/bars/restaurants, however the Montefaro urb may be of interest to you and is only a 5 min walk from a block of bars/restaurants on Av.Escandinavia - but a long way from the GA centre where the bigger supermarkets are (there is a small supermarket very close to Montefaro beside the Life Resort, which is ok for a basic shopping trip).

Happy to answer and specific questions you may have,

Michael.

Do you know if there are any indoor swimming pools in Gran Alacant - and good gyms?

There are no public indoor pools in GA but there is a great gym in the Commercial Centre!  You can see more details here https://www.facebook.com/ArmonyGym/
