the primary drum is a sealed system,but it can evaporate or leak, you fill it at the highest point with water and add glycol, it circulates through the panel to get hot, the secondary is a coil inside the drum to extract heat   into pipes to your system of boiler or such,

From my knowledge of solar energy its the other way round. The drum contains the potable water like any unvented cylinder, with an immersion heater for backup. The panel or evacuated tubes contain the water with glycol (antifreeze). The water in the tubes is circulated like a direct cylinder in the UK to heat the water in the thermal store. However that would be a pumped system not gravity.
