I have had several classic cars in Spain, currently an MG Midget.  Because it is registered in the UK I was able to get cheap classic car insurance for it from one of the many UK companies with a 6 month European cover.  There does not seem to be any way that they know when, or how long, it has been out of the UK because it is over 40 years old and does not need taxing or MOT........

I know that Beneficial Insurance - Jayne -  will cover you, give her a try.

Spanish classic car insurance does not have the use restriction which one of the replies has mentioned except for the mileage limit.

I would advise putting the car on Historic plates because Spanish classic insurance is quite cheap and you only need an ITV every 4 years and you are legal......

Hi Richard

I would be interested to know which Spanish insurance company has provided you with classic car insurance without the usage restrictions.

I had a car on classic insurance in the UK. I brought it to Spain, and assumed I could get the same/similar insurance product, but was advised by my broker that the Spanish version had usage restrictions.

Thanks

K

Any plan to keep a UK-registered and insured car in Spain indefinitely, while relying on 6 months European cover, would be problematic.

When outside of the UK or Spain, my wife and I rely on annual multi-trip travel insurance, with each trip having a limit of 45 days. My wife had the misfortune to be hospitalised on one such trip. Among the first questions asked by our insurer was for proof of travel dates - specifically for evidence of checked-in flights.

It seems likely, therefore, that a car insurer would ask for comparable evidence after an accident. The consequences of failure to produce would be unconscionable.

Who keeps their ferry ticket for more than a day?   The insurance will try any trick so as not to pay.  Who is the crook?

Richard  This is my last note on the subject.....
