Also does anyone know a rough idea how long the buying process starts? The owners and agent have applied for the habitation
certificate and all the paperwork but I read NIE certificate are only valid for 3 months.
In the mean time I am doing as much research as possible to how best to transfer money and get the most out of my £££s.
Thanks in advance for any advice given which will help as all seems slightly daunting.

Hi - yeah just got my NIE and can confirm no expiry date. Beware bank costs they are very different here to the UK and if transferring £50000 or more it is subject to a tax of about 25 euros. I used Xe.com who's rates I found were best plus you can set up a trade for the rate you would like to achieve and it will automatically happen when the rate hits the magic no - also lots of graphs etc including real time trades.

Solicitors here do little more than draw up the sale and check its legality, most work is done by the agent or the buyer / seller so chose someone you feel you can trust - lots of sharks out there
