Sorry if this has been discussed before but we have been on Urb just 3 weeks and not experienced any problems until this morning.  We are out most mornings with our two retrievers at around 8am going through the green areas in the centre of town and this morning were surrounded by mosquitos despite using sprays etc. Humidity was high around 80% and cloudy so guess this is ideal for mosquitos. If anyone has had previous experiences like ours we would be very grateful on any advice you could offer including a spray you may have found that gives some protection on us and our dogs as they were surrounded  by them as well. Had to abandon walk in the end maybe the answer is to go out later, but of course it's much warmer for the dogs then. We love the Urb and people are very friendly and this is our first setback- hoping you can pass on any advice.  Thanks. John

Hi Kim thank you for such useful information we will try it all. We are starting to realise that avoiding grassy areas whilst they are very active, like during the last two mornings, that we are less troubled by them. Not much fun for the dogs but our puppy Teddy was bitten on his muzzle whilst in the grass yesterday and this morning- drawing blood both times. So we will have to rethink the early morning grass walks staying mainly on the roads. Thanks again and if we come up with any other solutions we will post on here. John

What is the vaccine for Leishmaniasis? The British vet gave us a spot on treatment to use. I understand the Spanish vets use an injection. Does it last a year or longer?

Yes it lasts a year and you definitely need it. Get it here when you arrive as it is a fraction of the price you pay in the U.K.. we also have serestro collars for the boys, again much cheaper here. If you arruvevone day and get up to the vets the next day you should be ok

Thanks Kim we are so glad to have had our boys injexted but we won't let them out too early in the morning or late in the evening as that is when the sandflies are most active apparently.  We have had so much Information from the forum before we came over which we are very grateful for. This is how we found out about the processionary cagepillars and have spent the first few months of this year dodging then. Going back to the mosquitos we have read about the after bite pens you can use so thinking of investing in one of those.  Speaking to some dog walkers on the urb and they have recommended the Autan spray which we have used before but was not much good on Wednesday and Thursday for them or us apparently when the mozzies were out in force. Cloudy and humid seems to make them worse. Still looking for the answers but we will get there.

Thanks Kim can we do that at the town hall on the Urb at La Marina or do we need the San Fulgencio one? Also is this done by email or can we just drop in and request spraying? If anyone else is following this thread apart from PatP can you let us know if you have contacted the town hall or are prepared to. Many thanks. John

We got on the Padron there so I guess it's the town hall.  Will contact them and see what they say. Thanks Kim

I have inexpensive sonic mosquito wrist bands USB rechargeable bought from Amazon Spain and they work great. I also have a solar rechargeable one with a clip you hang on your belt or handbag also bought from Amazon. Both work great. No more bites here.
