I have had my Civil Service pension paid into the account for years but were told that we would definitely be charged from December with first payment being debited in March next year.

"Went to our branch today and it has been confirmed that things have changed. It is now only necessary to have pension of at least 700 Eurs deposited monthly. Was told this when I went in to close final account with them. Apparently he had only received the new information this morning.Told them it was too late and I had already transferred all capital and most of direct debits to new bank.
"It makes me wonder if customers complaining has had an effect for once."

That can't be the differentiator, as the Expansion Account is only for Residents. Non-residents have the Key Account.
My gestor had to print off the conditions - she said it was so new, she needed to refer to them. When I suggested it would have saved a lot of time - hers and ours - if Sabadell had sent that information directly to its customers so we didn't have to go into branch, she said, "We want you to come into the branch, so that we can sell you additional products". I wouldn't mind paying a fee, if their customer service was better - but they just don't get it! Maybe in another 20 years...... ;o)
Kim meaning no dispespect but the expansion account is not just for residents. I was offerred the expansion account even though they knew we weren't residents but I declined due to commitment of sending money every month which we didn't need in Spain. I have several other friends also non residents with the expansion account to avoid charges. It seems Sabadell simply bend the rules to get as much money into their bank. I,m very glad to have changed banks now.

Pauline.

Hi Pauline,
I did wonder whether this is the case. Sabadell's own information states that the Expansion Account is for residents, but I've also heard of non-residents being offered this account. Perhaps I don't need to change my bank - just my branch!
Kind regards,
Kim
Jay1947, may I ask who you transferred to from Sabadell?
Regards
Pauline.
We have gone with Bankia and so far all is well. The most annoying thing is that when I visited the Sabadell on Monday to close the last account I was told that they had changed again and if pensions of above 700Euro were paid in there would be no charge. I think there must have been a big out cry from customers to cause the backtracking. I took great pleasure in telling him that it was too late for us as we had transferred all our sayings and direct debits. Said we would return if we had problems with the new bank.
Noticed that you live in Villena, we have happy memories of the town when we owned a property in Sax. We thought it was a really friendly town.

I had an expansion account before I became resident I think different branches make the rules up as they go along
With all this negativity towards Sabadell I must say that after over four years with them, firstly with a Key Account when Non Resident and secondly with an Expansion Account after obtaining Residencia, I have nothing but praise for their service both in Branch and Online. With English speaking staff in every Branch, polite helpful staff and a wonderful Online facility I have found them to be a truly excellent Bank.
