Driving licence

You don't say if you are a fully legal resident...

It doesn't matter what passport you have  but If you are a fully legal resident your uk driving licence is only valid for the first 6 months then you will need to take a Spanish driving test.

You're stymied by Brexit, Norman. My wife (German, but with a UK licence, on account of having lived there for many years before we relocated to Spain) is in the same situation as you. We actually contacted the EU helpline for clarification, and Steve is correct. And the negotiations seem to have ground to a halt.......

We use an INTERNATION DRIVING  LICENCE   Obtained for a few GBP in UK, but needs to be renewed annually at little cost. We are not residents and use the 90/90 arrangement to stay in our holiday villa.  Hope this helps............Spanish Laws sucks

International Driving Permit (IDP) is not required for Spain and is only a translation of your UK driving licence. It is not a driving licence. As non Spanish residents you can continue to use your UK licence.

O/P has up to 6 months to use is UK licence after becoming Spanish resident. I would be tempted to delay becoming resident until the driving licence exchange is sorted out.

Thank you PeterPan,,,,though so but brought IDL as a belt-and bracers.  We will NEVER consider becoming Spanish Residents, bureaucracy and paperwork so archaic, banks have no 'customer care experience', and owning and driving a car in Spain is horrendous.    Actually, had we known all this before buying... we may never have bought.     But we love the sunshine and outdoor customs ....maybe we will come back again.
