Hi   Looking for some advice regarding visiting our Spanish home from the UK     The property ownership is in my wife's name alone    We are both residing in the UK     I am planning to visit on my own      I understand that I will need to show the Spanish authorities that I have an address to stay at for the duration of my visit   I understand that a letter from my wife saying that I can stay there will not be a sufficient 'carta de invitacion'    Has anyone on the forum experienced this problem and how to overcome it

Hi scaleg

Welcome to the forum!

I’d hoped someone who’s flown into Spain in the last week or so might have posted their experiences, however, at this point, they’ve not

Portet, one of the forum members flies today and another, aitch, next Tuesday. They will, I’m sure, be posting their experiences, in order that we get an idea of what’s happening, given the confusion around the “carta de invitacion 🤪🥂

There are several threads covering Carta de Invitacion. UK passport holders do not require one.

Hi

I thought we didn’t need a letter for the Spanish authorities , they are allowing us in, Like Boris says we shouldn’t be going on holiday only for legal reasons, its confusing, we are waiting to go to Spain,

Thank you both for your responses     That's good news if you simply need to produce your passport   I had been worried that I needed to provide evidence of where I was staying

Morning all

This is still showing as current on gov.uk. It does say may be asked. For this reason, the more members post their experiences, the more confident we can be.

It includes that passports may be stamped unless resident. From what I’ve read up to now, from members arriving in Spain, they are stamping them, no may about it 🤪🥂

“At Spanish border control, it is likely you will need to use separate lanes from EU, EEA and Swiss citizens when queueing. Your passport may be stamped on entry and exit unless you can demonstrate that you are resident of Spain and are returning to your place of residence (see Requirements for UK nationals resident in Spain section below for further details). You may also need to:

  • show a return or onward ticket
  • show you have enough money for your stay
  • show proof of accommodation for your stay, for example, a hotel booking confirmation, proof of address if visiting your own property (e.g. second home), or an invitation from your host or proof of their address if staying with a third party, friends or family. The Spanish Government has clarified that the “carta de invitation” is one of the options available to prove that you have accommodation if staying with friends or family. More information is available from the Spanish Ministry of Interior.”

I posted my experience last week. There are no restrictions on UK residents entering Spain, no questions asked except you have to complete the Spanish health form 48 hours before you travel on Sotheby’s.gob.es.

We went through electronic passport control onto Border control who stamp your passport, to ensure you don’t stay longer than 90 days if you’re non resident then onto baggage reclaim where your health form QR number is scanned. It took us 10 minutes last Sunday.

...

Predictive type put Sotheby’s should be spth.gob.es

Hi. We had some friends fly over last Sunday to stay with us for a week.

I typed up and signed a letter of invitation, with all our details .. just in case. But they were only asked for their health form (SPTH).

I haven’t seen anything on any of the forums or Facebook saying that anyone has been asked for the Carta de Invitación .. and, as bad news travels fast, I’m guessing I would’ve heard something on the digital jungle drums if they were enforcing it.
