I sometimes wonder if some of you get pleasure out of pointing out things that cause others upset. I read comments and am aghast and shake my head in horror. We are all human beings doing our best to get through life and do not want or deserve rotten little jibes. Many people have bought holiday homes in Spain and enjoy spending time in them. The Schengen rules have always existed but not implemented which is exactly what I think Spain will continue to do so let’s all wait and see. I know it angers many people that retired people from all over came over to Spain and stayed longer than 6 months but continued to pay their taxes in their home countries. I wonder if the tax in Spain was less than it is in the U.K. would you continue to go on about it!  Lots of elderly folk have very little to live on and opt to remain with their own nation to save some money so be charitable and understand their reasons. Yes, I know the same applies to many of you now permanently living and paying your taxes in Spain, just be thankful that you are honourable people and doing the right thing. Our lovely Swedish neighbour used to stay in her little apartment for 8 months and then return to Sweden for the summer and never worried that she had overstayed her allotted time. Sadly, she’s too old to return anymore so we won’t have the pleasure of having her live across from us. On the other side of the coin, the only people who don’t pay their urbanisation fees are the Spanish and there’s no shame in them. I see their grandchildren using our pool and enjoying themselves regularly but I’m not going to cause trouble or embarrassment, I don’t know why they aren’t contributing to the upkeep of the place but we pay ours as is expected.

I will finish by asking those who seem to get great joy out of other peoples distress to think about it and please offer help instead of being judgemental.

I am afraid I do not know what you are referring to and how any of the statements made are deliberately designed to cause upset or provide pleasure to the poster. They are just providing information regarding the current situation. Would you rather these points were not made and people landed themselves in serious trouble for attempting something that is not allowed?

As a holiday home owner I too hope that Spain will not enforce the rules, but it is an enormous risk to take which could result in you being barred from visiting Spain/Schengen for a significant period - or permanently.

I am not sure of the relevance of much of the rest of your post to the current focus of this thread.

Neither am I. The comments made seem to be a reply to a question not asked.

It can also be unhelpful to post based on feelings and guesses when dealing with legal issues. Breaking residency rules could have serious consequences, even if someone hopes it won’t.

It's 90 days, then you can't return for 90 days.

So if I did 10 per month would thar be OK? Or do you have to have a break?

If you did 10 every month you would be fine because you would only do around 60 days in a rolling 180 day period. You can't exceed 90 in any 180

Hello

"Pointing out things that cause others upset?"   If people are upset then that is unfortunate but  it is important for them to have this information....     .you can't always tell people what they want to hear . The facts, the rules, the restrictions will always anger/upset people because it restricts them,  but you cannot sugar coat everything to suit everyone!

You,  often reply to   people solely  based on your own feelings but completely devoid of official details  & up to date  links to show the current procedures for living-working    etc  legally in Spain. Giving them flowery replies based on your own experiences doesn't really help them to  move forward however well meaning it is meant.

Current facts & figures allow them to do that properly  and it isn't to discourage them but arm them with all the info. so that  they can make their own decisions. Give them encouragement by all means but at least,  check your advise is correct  before you pass it on

Cheers

I honestly don't mean to come across as mean, disrespectful or confrontational but I really don't understand where this reply comes from?

If all it takes for you to become aghast and shake you head in horror is a few comments from strangers that you don't agree with, well, my word!!

So I'll ask some questions for you to clarify.

Who has pointed something out that has caused upset?

Who has said that retirees staying longer than 6 months is an issue?

Older people who have very little to live on but can still afford to have and run two homes along with all the monthly bills that entails, really that's your argument? If I were in that position and had very little to live on I'd probably sell my second home instead of paying thousands a year that I don't need to pay out.

Where has it been mentioned about people not paying taxes correctly?

I am a legal resident in Spain, yes because it is the right thing to do, it is the law. If people want to take the risk and break the law that's not my concern, the risk and punishment that comes with it is down to that person. Are you suggesting we should flout rules and laws to suit ourselves?

How do you know the Spanish are the only ones not paying their urbanisation fees? Have you seen the official accounts? Is it just gossip? If the official accounts show this surely the president should be taking this up with anyone not paying.

Finally I don't think anyone who has replied on this thread gets joy out of causing distress, you can't just sugar coat things. If you are asked a straight and honest question it deserves a straight and honest answer surely? Whether or not it's the answer you want or need to hear.

Again, I apologise if you find this upsetting I really don't mean it to. I'd just like to find out why you felt you needed to post your reply.

Dazz might I suggest that this response may well be the result of an expectation of bullying which occurred on this site for a number of months. You, like myself, have been on this forum of a number of years and I am sure that you, like me, experienced the vitriol of a small group of posters. They would regularly post helpful information on this site which was to the benefit of those requiring it. However it was often accompanied by judgemental rants as to their legal status in Spain, whether it was true or otherwise. Unfortunately the expectation persists for some.
